OK so we now know the name of the D90 "replacement" will be the Nikon D7000. Let's continue the discussion in a new thread as this one is already too long. All the good stuff is coming.

I think the price might be $1299 body only.

It's interesting that the canon 50D (metal body) replacement will be a plastic 60D. Many people wondered how canon could have the 7D and 60D so close together price wise. The answer is that the 60D will be plastic and have a swivel screen like the G11. So it seems like the Nikon "D95" and the canon 60D have reversed roles. Nikon had the less expensive plastic "prosumer" camera while canon had the all metal semipro camera priced at 1299 body only. Seems now that they have switched positions.

Hi, first post here!

I'm certainly looking forward to the D90 replacement. I'm really hoping that Nikon will keep the internal AF motor, though (I have two Tokina lenses, which won't AF with my D40). I'm also ready to have some HD video, too! =) More AF points will be nice, as well as better noise performance. Add me to the list of potential D90 replacement buyers!

My guess is that the D90 replacement (named D95 I hope) will be worth buying as a backup DSLR camera. Our D90 gets a lot of use because of the video mode and at times the video mode produces GREAT results. I do not have a D300s but have seen great results with it, and that is one great field camera. I agree with those Nikon Rumors guys who will wait and see the actual test results before I actually buy one. The current D90 is a very good investment and at least we know it is a keeper with no really bad habits. If the new AF video is a success and if the still capabilities are improved it will be a highly successful camera in the market. I for one wonder about the all or part metal body although my D300 has earned my respect under challenging conditions. I do feel that that is a dandy way to add weight. Actually one of the MOST important cameras for Nikon to COMPETE with is the Canon T2i which is attracting huge sales volume and respect for its video abilities. I do not like the Canon T2is build quality but it is light, affordable and is producing amazing results. I would not buy a Canon T2i. But it has become one of Canons biggest guns image wise. So procrastinate about Nikon D3s or other expensive cameras all you want but to be really a great camera for sales there had better be BANG FOR THE BUCK!

Hello all,

I am very interested in getting then new d90 replacement when it becomes available and was wondering if it is going to have the Continuous AF in video mode/live view mode as the d3100 will? This is a very important feature that I am looking for in the new d90.

Thanks for replys in advance,

Yup, even if the D95 has the rumored 16 or 37 point AF system, it wont be as nice to work with as the 51 point AF system of the higher end cameras. I love how much coverage the 51 AF points give, not to mention how much better it tracks moving subjects thanks to having 15 cross type AF points. I bet the next gen semi-pro/pro bodies will have 20+ cross type AF points, while the D95 might get 5-10.

As far as I know the D700 is considered a Pro body. A D700 user with two bodies can Apply for NPS (you can with two D300s as well), but the D300 is considered an advanced amateur/semi-pro body. I doubt the D95 will be considered a semi-pro body, I mean it doesn't even get a big move number wise!

Really, I didn't think D300s owners could apply?

I thought it was D1/2/3 and D700 only?

Regardless, agreed, adding a little Mg to the body and some minor weather sealing will be a D95 plus, but it'll take away from the target audience of having a light body with some pro feature-sets.

I'm assuming the MM will be 450 as before?

Metering and AF are the key separators I think between the D90-series and the D300/700/3 series. . .

Personally I do see the D300 class body going anywhere either otherwise they would not have done the D300s just to be replaced so soon. My hunch if Nikon really is is moving to a metal body for the D95 is because many pros have bought that camera either as their back-up, or primary camera and beat the hall out of it. It just makes sense to beef it up a bit. Also, the 39 point AF is a step backwards if the two were merged into one. My guess we will have a D400 with an auto focus system better than 60 points, and pro layout. Remember the rumor a few months back that Nikon has a new revolutionary auto focus system. That will be the big difference.

You need to calm down jeez. I was referring to you saying the D3 wasn't a replacement for the D2X (DX versus FX). So the D700 doesn't fit within the D100,200,300,300S family either since they have all been DX.

Hi all.

I've been looking to get a D90 this week, But no stock....

I have just spoke with the dreaded Jessops.
They are out of stock in their warehouse with no expected delivery date.

Also I have just spoked to Nikon UK They also have none in their warehouse either, again with no expected delivery date confirmed.

So I'm feeling the D90 replacement cannot be that far away.

Also if the D3 wasn't the D2XS replacement then why did Nikon stop making the D2XS? Why didn't they sell both side-by-side like the D2HS?
