Man, people are complaining about product shortages now, I can't imagine what they will be like if these specs are real. Even if this goes up to around 1,200 for the body only, it's going to sell like crazy.

If the iso performance of D90 replacement is the equivalence to D700 ISO in a 16MP DX sized sensor than I will be really surprised. Maybe the D400/500 will be FX and more affordable - prefer the larger viewfinder. Guess used to the viewfinders from the old 35mm SLR film days.

If the new rumour is accurate then it looks like a merged D300/D90 at a slightly higher price
which makes way for a new level of camera with equal specification for both DX AND FX.. The DX version will have video the FX version will have the old D700/D3 sensor. I will have one of each please.. :-)

Below that we will have a slightly more advanced D5000 and above that we will have a slightly more advanced D700 ie plus video etc..

Well regardless though. The camera with these specs is going to sell like crazy! So you guys better put your recently purchased D90's up on craiglist and pitch up your tents outside your favorite camera store NOW!

However does anyone else think the D90 replacement is going up a bit in price, build quality and features in order to become the "top DX" Nikon machine? Despite Heartyfisher's evileye FX has been around for over 50 years so it ain't going nowhere! I feel the next D400/500 is gonna be the first "affordable" FX camera (fingers crossed)!

But I have to admit I'm going to have a VERY hard time not following everyone's future advice around here to get a "D7000" with 35mm f1.8 lens :^)

I am looking forward to the D300s replacement, because I'd like D700 type noise performance, not to mention full continuous shooting speed with 14bit images, and less shutter lag. Anyway back to the D90 replacement. :D I wonder if the D90 replacement will have 14bit RAW files, since the T2i does.

If the D90 replacement is 16MP, and has that kind of noise performance, it will surely put a dent in T2i sales. It has better be that good if they want the camera to sell for two years! If the D300 body wasn't so nice to use, I'd go for a D90 replacement, but I love the extra controls of the higher end bodies. Of course the D90 replacement could make for a great backup to a D400.

Yeah that D300S Successor is gonna be a beaut! I saved up for a D400 last year its still waiting! But as you say its still only a rumour.. :-(

If that rumor is true, wow, I'm looking forward to the D300s successor, which no doubt will share the same sensor.

A lot of noise on the main blog comments re the equivalence to D700 ISO in a 16MP DX sized sensor. Could mean that the new sensor may not be a sony after all but a nikon like the D3S but improved. How exciting! when did the D3S get released again? imagine that!, a second generation Nikon sensor in dx format already?! yup DX has won FX is dead 8-)

I'm pretty sure it's very lucrative for these companies to have several kind of models with different prices to attract their customers with. I don't see why it would be interesting for them to kill the 50D... Of course they'd save money by not conceiving it, but I'm sure offering as many prices range as possible is a good way to make sure possible new customers don't buy another brand (that offered something closer to their needs)

Finally some specs!

* 16MP DX sensor
* same noise performance like the D700!
* full HD
* 8p/s
* new video AF and performance
* parts of the body will be aluminum

If it wasn't for the aluminum build I'd almost say that this could possibly replace the D90 and D300s simultaneously. Then again the T2i almost made the 50D look like a lesser body and went into competing with the 50D/D90 class as the true rival of the D300s now became the 7D. It makes me wonder if a 60D is ever going to come out or if both makes are evolving into one camera that makes up the low mid range...

Oh, great. A D90 with 16MP. Crap. Now I'll have to get the new D300sx and or D700x just to keep up with the jones'.
