I can guarantee that everyone here and their mother will recommend you buy a D90 with 35mm f1.8 lens.

Way off, Niko. Just got off the phone with my mom and she recommends the D3s with 24-70 2.8 if the budget will take it.

I recommend the D90 or the D200.

I agree with heartyfisher, the D3100 would be great for you, but with how many photos you take and what you would be missing out on while you waited, it might be best to get a D90 now.

so did you loose lenses as well?

I agree the D3100 sounds perfect for you. but I dont know if you can wait.. 40K photos in 2 years means you are missing your camera a lot! I would go with a D90 if you cant wait. Its at a good price at the moment.

But I'll recommend you wait for the new cameras that are coming soon. The D3100 sounds like it'll be an amazing camera, but you should go to the store and try out and buy the camera YOU like. It really depends on YOU and how much you are willing to spend.

With that advice, do NOT buy canon... :P

Also as a tangent what is the price cut off point in which one should insure their gear... I've got 8 f2.8's and no Ins...

Hello all, some creep just stole my beloved Nikon D80 and, assuming it will NOT be recovered, I'm wondering what I should replace it with? I loved it, so I could go with a new/used D80, but maybe I can get something better for the same amount of money...?

I mainly used it for family photos (40,000+ images over the past couple years) and occasionally the creative pursuit. It's mainly a hobby, but I went with the D80 just in case I ever wanted to go professional. I shot in raw and jpg.

Any thoughts on:
1) what to buy and
2) any ideas on how/if I can recover it based on EXIF data or the like?

Thanks, everyone and don't forget to LOCK YOUR DOORS AND WINDOWS!!
