I'd keep it just for panoramas because primes usually have distortion that's easier to correct. If you don't shoot panoramas then maybe it's worth selling. Especially if you get an SB600 or something.

don't get rid off it, zoom and prime are two different lenses - similar sure, but not fully replaceable

why would anyone get rid of a 35 1.8 on a DX? Especially on a D90?

That's like asking if you shouldn't drink water in a desert. . .

(and to clarify you should). . .

Maybe its not even lazy but practical? Zooms were going to catch up to primes eventually although people still claim they have a ways to go yet. Weight also will always be a factor. I sold my 28 Ais because I wasn't using it at all. I wouldn't recommend anyone else to sell off their primes because of a zoom lens purchase. Just hold onto your 35mm for now especially for the cost of it they will always be useful for you down the line.

kanuck said:
Thats what happens when you buy a zoom lens you get lazy and stop using primes. This happened to pros once zoom lenses actually became good enough to rely on back in the late 80s. When I bought my 24-70 lens I stopped using my 28 Ais, 35 ZF Zeiss, and 50mm 1.4 D. I have since sold my 28, rarely use the 50mm and use the Zeiss only for certain shots.

This is so true and I hate myself for being so lazy but ehh.

I keep trying to find a reason to keep it around but I could easily sell it for maybe around $175 and that's a small but nice chunk of change towards something pro.

I am keeping my 50mm f/1.8D though because I was reading good things about the Raynox DCR 250 so I plan to use that on the 50mm.

I would keep it unless you really think you will never use it. The 1.8 is an improvement even over the 2.8.

Heck yeah keep it ..! With your D90 set at about iso 800-1000 , you can open it up and get great hand held
shots with it in almost pitch black light

I shot inside Notre Dame in Paris and got great shots

I purchased a Tokina 16-50 f/2.8 and have basically been using that for everything that my 55-200VR can't do.

Starting to wonder if I should sell my 35mm f/1.8 and use it to fund other things and or rebuild up my savings that I have constantly drained in buying gear.

I have a D90 and I know it's essentially a 50mm but ehh, I figure I can use the Tokina to replace it.

Just don't know if I'll miss the 1.8 or not. So far haven't had a reason to switch out lenses.
