The sigma lenses I've tried (70-300, 28-80, 50, 50-500) have all felt a bit lame to me, but then again, if the focusing ring doesn't feel like an old Nikkor from the mid seventies, I'm not generally pleased with a lens. I found even my messed up 35/2 Mir-H russian lens has a better build than all the sigmas I mentioned above, and those factory workers were probably sloshing down vodka while assembling them.

LOL funny guys! However, my fav lens is a sigma 150 macro F2.8 !! Looking to add to my sigma collection .. hope they come out with a 50-150 F2.8 OS(VR version would be nice!). The new 50-500 OS is on my list as well. All brands have gems in their line up ... and all have duds. With regard to the 50mm comparison. I cant say why the 50mm Sigma has a good following(have not been too interested in that Focal length) ..However, I have a had the chance to play with the new 50mm G and that's a wonderful lens.. but nothing to get so aggravated about just because another brand has a good competing product! Keeps the price reasonable for us punters!

I mean aside from the fact that sigma lenses are sub-par cobbled together assemblies of brittle plastic and low quality glass, right?

I have no experience with Sigma lenses, so I couldn't say.

Not sure why you have to start a new thread to tell everyone here that "you were right"? I don't even remember you ever making that argument before so how can you tell us all to "Get over it!"? You have only made 3 post to this forum and two of those were today?

They have a seperate review for the 50mm on an APS-C camera and gave it higher marks. Or as they put it "showed pretty impressive results". So your "anger" might be a bit misguided if you ask me.

But anyway Sigma is notorious for having one great lens and 5 crappy copies of the same lens. So I believe it when some say their copies are excellent while others are disappointed. That's been my experience with Sigma lenses. I get one good copy and the rest have quality control issues. I had to go through two copies of the 30mm for example before I got a good one. Although I have several Sigma lenses I don't recommend them.

I'm not sure if you realize it but the review you link to is for full frame cameras only. They have a separate review for APS-C cameras in which it got good marks. Or as they put it "showed pretty impressive results". So your "anger" might be a bit misguided.

Nikkor or Nothing!

Everybody talks up a streak about how the Sigma 50mm/1.4 is the best thing since sliced bread. I tested it and was underwhelmed on both a D300 and a D700. I've owned a couple copies of the 50/1.4D and picked up the 50/1.4G as soon as it came out.

My experience has been that wide open, the 50/1.4G was the sharpest of the lot, especially in the corners. Dpreview's numerical/color coded test charts agree with what I've seen, but their review seems make some comparison's that talk up the IQ of the Sigma compared to Nikon and Canon. Their quantitative analysis and sample images contradict a lot of the positives bestowed on the Sigma in their review.

Anyway, I'm happy to see photozone come out with a full frame review which reaffirms what I've been saying all along: the Sigma doesn't hold a candle to the 50G in terms of sharpness: http://www.photozone.de/canon-eos/522-sigma50f14eosff?start=1

I'll admit, I like some Sigma lenses. I'm more than ready to root for the underdog. But I really don't understand why people go on and on about this lens. It's a dud! Get over it!

The Nikon is cheaper and better. Lemme qualify that: the Nikon is has higher resolution, better corner sharpness, better weather sealing, it smaller and lighter, and is easier to manually focus.

I love my 20/1.8...

...but really, what's all the Sigma fan-boy-ism about?
