I found my original receipt, so Nikons got me covered, thank goodness, couldn't afford the repair fees. I've sent my sigma 15mm fisheye in to sigma and they fixed it for free, in fact the box was back so quickly I thought that I had put my address on it. I'll think twice about spending that much on a Nikon lens again.

My 28-70mm f2.8 does it too but is out of warranty and Nikon doesn't have the part needed... Maybe I should just get the much smaller and lighter 24-70mm..

I've heard of this coming up with the gen 1 70-200's. . .not sure if it's an age thing, or just happen chance, but should be covered under the 5 year warranty. . they'll need a copy of the original receipt (which sucks). . .

Finally sent in my lens, Nikon wanted $532.00 to fix it, I quickly dug out warranty cards and receipts and it should be covered, lets hope so.

I've cleaned the contacts with an eraser, not sure what else will work....

try a 10-30 engine oil. it is much better than 5-30 in old car. woops! i thought you talking about automobile.

Are the electrical contacts on the mount clean?

It was doing from the beginning but I thought it was and old camera body causing it, because it would work once I switched bodies. But later figured out it was something in the lens. I work for a newspaper so I can't do without long thats why I've put it off for so long, but now its getting much worse.

Get a quote first, and then if it's too much dump this and get a 70-200 VRII if possible.

Nikon 70-200 VR1 auto focus not working all the time, the lens has done this for years but has recently got worse. The lens will stop auto focusing at random times and will not start back for hours or sometimes days. Anyone else having this problem?
