The 70-200mm VR is selling for $2100 around here, and will continue to fall in price, just as the old 70-200mm VR did. I suspect the price will be below $2000 by the end of the year.

Yeah for "only" $500 dollars more I'd get the Nikon instead.

I was thinking the same thing. But the way Nikon is raising prices every time they revise a lens I'm going to have to find that link about converting my DSLR to a pinhole camera.

all three previous models suck a lot in terms of quality, so I'm looking forward to get a small test with the new sigma once I find it available somewhere

That is a big increase in price, and I'm not sure why Sigma thinks that people will chose their lens over the first party lenses at that price point. The lens will have to be extremely good optically to steal sales from Nikon and Canon models. That said, I think part of it is that the optical design was completely changed, where as the last three models were basically the same.

I was on a Sigma meeting app two weeks ago, and they heaven't mentioned any updates to this lens. However, this doesn't mean that it's not up for replacement. OS and fluorite glass would be nice.

BTW:
have You seen the price increase of Sigma 70-200, the old version was app $700 the new one has a MSRP at $2470 (and sells for $1700) - over 100% price increase!!!!

And I thought this was a pretty decent lens. Maybe they are replacing it with an OS version...
