That is exactly what I mean, shadow recover at low ISO is not something you want to do. At ISO400 and up you don't seem to have the banding problem, or at least it isn't as noticeable.

I also found that the 12MP files from the D300 have far more headroom in terms of highlight detail, but that is nothing new, the review at Dpreivew points that out on the dynamic range chart.

Like when you pump up the shadow detail in PS with the shadows/highlights sliders? That stinks. People crucified the D200 for banding in the highlights...

Nikon will have an answer for the new Canons but the instant gratification people are never satisfied.

One thing I found with the T2i was that colour noise could not be removed, but you do get cleaner images overall than from the 12MP Nikon sensors. The high resolution gives you a lot more to work with in terms of noise reduction as well. One thing that many reviewers don't consider is the banding that Canon sensors suffer from at low ISO. Don't try to recover detail from underexposed shots at ISO100 for example, because you'll get tons of banding in your image.

You do get less intense colors the higher up you go with ISO. But I don't see as drastic of a change with the canon as I do with the color blue on the D5000. So I'm not sure what you're looking at NSX. The blue on the canon does fade out a bit but the color is still there. On the D5000 however the color blue disappears. Strange that it's just the blue and the other colors stay pretty much the same.

Seems strange. Never seen the colors change like that with the ISO. Makes me think the settings weren't be used right. Shooting full manual and not letting enough light in or something? Glad to see my camera put up a good fight with the new Canon though.

Looks pretty even up until 1600. Above that the T2i has better noise AND more pixels. For 12Mp the D5000 does very well against the canon. The pics are sharper. However I was surprised by how much the color fades in Woodies jeans with the D5000 at higher ISO. They start off as blue and end up black?!?
