I have a Manfrotto 681B, its compact, lightweight, and sturdy. I love it, I haven't had a chance to buy a ball head for it. But am using it standalone anyways.

Carried it once in my hand luggage, did not have a problem on southwest.

Lately they are a lot more careful with anything that you want to carry on

Mine has clips, like that better than twist also

I've put my monopod, a Manfrotto aluminum in my roll aboard and not had any issues. But that was in the US. Granted that may be a hit or miss proposal with the TSA.

oh wow I hadn't even thought about traveling with mine. I also have a manfrotto monopod. I just got it and haven't had much of a chance to use it yet. I'll have to remember to pack it in my suitcase though, that would have been bad.

i use a manfrotto too...carbon though. i would recommend clips as opposed to twist locks, whatever you choose.

I use Manfrotto, aluminum is stronger, Carbon is lighter and expensive. Mine is aluminum with a 234RC head, I like it that way so I can pan up and down easier

I have no idea how it would be to travel with, I don't think they will be allowed to be with your carry on bags
