A man after my own heart.

After I had scuffing on the edges from sand that got under the plastic cover on my D300, I threw my cover away, too. But I should mention that after that, I put a 1cm scratch on it right down the center. I never found out how it happened.
With my D90, I decided to be more careful, so I bought the screen protector.

I ruined my screen (scratches) with the cover. It fell on it's back and there was dirt in between it and the screen. :(

I found that when I used the covers they were easily scratched and that made it harder to view images.I leave the covers off and have NOT had any scratches, just nose prints.
That has been true for my D70s, D200, and D3s. A fellow photo geek and engineer reminded me of where glass falls on Mohs scale of hardness. He threw his Cannon covers away also.

I took the goofy plastic covers off my cameras long time ago. I now use the static cling non-adhesive screen protectors on all of them. I forgot the brand name put the ones I use are meant for PDA screens. Never have had a problem and they are virtually invisible.

I dont have one on my D3 Either. I have been hesitant about getting one since my protective screen on my D90 cracked my screen on my camera... how Ironic, a protective screen actually was the cause of my 1inch crack on my LCD screen isntead of protecting it.

Couldn't you just get the D3 plastic cover?

Oh. Well to make you feel better, I haven't used a protector on my D40. It's been almost 2 years now, maybe more, I lost count, but nothing's happened to that yet. I just wipe it down with a microfiber cloth.

Do you really need one?

I would imagine that on a pro body like D3S, the LCD plexi glass would be quite tough and resistant to scratching.

I haven't used any lcd protective covers on my d70s and D200 and I am yet to have any mark on them.

I generally hate these things, extra crap to lose, moreover to me it degrades the quality of viewing images.

If you're handy with an x-acto knife, you could just buy a plastic adhesive protective screen and cut it to fit your D3s screen. That's what I have on my D90, and it's like it's not even there. The brand I got was bodygaurdz after reading reviews, and one of their iphone covers was enough to cover both the back LCD and the top LCD. If you do go that route, don't be worried if it looks like there's some water between the screen and protector even after you use their little squeegee to get the water out. That disappears after a day or so and, like I said, it looks like the protector isn't even there. I've got extra and if you want (the pack I bought had two front covers and two back covers), I'd throw one in the mail to you. Let me know.

Was told that it would not fit (B&H). They suggested the AGEIS Prof Glass Protective Cover $36.95.

I have ordered my D3S from B&H and wanted a cover for the LCD screen. I had to purchase a cover from another mfg. because Nikon does not have one for this model (per B&H). This surprises me that there is no OEM part.
