i have to agree with Nikoner here. These people are not icons by any means. I liked the ad posted in that thread because it was smart and spoke to the people that really use Nikon cameras as a tool. If they want to sell only P&S cameras, sure have kutcher take some terrible stalker pictures on a boat. If they want to inspire people to pick up photography, produce more ads from that link.

ps... if Nikon is trying to sway young adults, kutcher is a terrible choice. most people my age (im 24) think he is a douchebag.

However, it speaks volumes about american consumer if Nikon has to go with such "icons" (aston & glee casts) when it’s perfectly capable of taping the world market with sensible commercial like the one krevlingoodspeed posted in the now closed thread titled "Ashton Kutcher needs to move over"

Yeah, I know, I know. I had no idea that I was shooting this event tonight. I also have to work under fairly strict still photo restrictions. But, she's incredibly pretty in person! You don't see a lot of DSLR commercials because the COOLPIX line is Nikon's lifeline. They sell a LOT more point & shoots then DSLR/lenses combined. Besides Nikon's DSLRs practically sell themselves.

@bjrichus: Still, you'd think they could find some kind of happy medium. Other than a handful of commercials for the D5000 (also featuring Mr. Demi Moore), I haven't really seen anything on TV for Nikon SLRs. Ironically, you're more likely to see SLRs and other more advanced cameras in commercials for other products, like Transitions lenses, laxatives, et cetera. Okay, I'm kidding about the laxatives part. I think.

I wonder if they'll do D7000 commercials, or at least one commercial, when the Nikon Aspire winner's announced? It'd make sense...
