Oh the irony... I guess every apple in this basket is bad. If those at the top cut their salaries this world would be a much better place... and jobs easier to find here in the US...

So are you saying that guy who couldn't get his D5000 to stop taking pictures at 90mph on the freeway and had to call 911 to get the police to come stop it for him might have been lying?

What issues does the D5000 have? Do you mean the recall when they first came out last year? Nikon quickly admitted and took care of it.

That's absolutely true. The fashion industry is equally bad if not worse, I can't think of a large clothing label that is completely made in America.

It's sad, but it's the reality.

Sure, pay them more. Nikon will just raise prices to counter it, which I guess is okay. I'm not exactly in favor of big companies exploiting workers in Asian countries.

Yeah it'll be interesting to see how long this lasts.

In case some of you missed the link on the main blog page. The workers who build Nikon's cameras (D3000, D5000, D90, D300S) as well as some Nikkor lenses and other gear are on strike. I'm not sure if these strikes have completely stopped all production of those products or not?

According to the article Nikon pays its factory workers a whopping 50baht/$1.50USD (an hour?) to build our cameras! They want an increase to 80baht/$2.50USD (an hour?)! I'll throw my support to the factory workers. I hope Nikon gives them what they want. They did an excellent job putting my D70 together :^)

I hope they can work things out. A long strike would not be good if the D90 replacement is or is about to go into production. Regardless, you don't want angry workers building your cameras because then quality control starts to suffer. Just ask canon employees ;^)
