I think the whole issue with the D-movie on Nikon is not the 1080p as much as the lack of manual control of the feature.

I to agree with you bmxdad that all the things that we mention here can be fixed through firmware even to add the 1080p. But also agree with Niko that the frame rate and the manual control is more important then 1080p.

If Coolpix P100 has it I am sure that any Nikon DSLR can handle the extra resolution. Since I became member on this blog I read all sorts of explanation as to why Nikon sensor can't handle the 1080p which puzzled me to point that I started searching on the net just to find answers because I am so curious to know.

I even contacted Nikon when I bought my D300s in October to find out if they were working on the firmware update. By that time I know that a lot of people have been asking around for the manual control in D-movie when D90 came along so for Nikon it wasn't something that they didn't know.

At the end they manage to fix the manual control with D3s but still they didn't put the 1080p which we all suspected that Nikon will do. I remember when I was reading the rumors here everybody was saying that if Nikon is going to stay in the game with D-movie it has to match up 5d.

So to rap up I think what we are doing here is good thing because we are sharing info and ideas which I am hoping that somebody at Nikon is reading, because in fairness Nikon needs to gear up a bit with firmware department.

As far as camera goes Nikon is the king and that is it. I have both cameras but whenever i use Nikon i feel at ease and at home. Sorry Canon but Nikon is more sexy.

Regards

*facepalm, here comes the fire*

Why is 1080 "needed"? To me frame rate is more important.

I know this could flare up, but I also know I count on you to douse the fire if needed, but just not yet, OK

Yes 1080p is needed, but more important is how the Nikon DSLR is handling different aspects of the video recording, even how you start/stop the recording. Plain and simply many things could be improved with firmware right now

I knew deep down that you would want D-Video

Because in every single previous thread tempers always flare. You know this and that's why you titled this thread a "battlefield". No?

I'm not against DSLR video. I love and embrace it. I just don't think the lack of 1080p makes a DSLR bad. For most people the file sizes of 1080 are too big for them to handle anyway. Not to mention they don't even own 1080 TV's.

Why can these regular anti D-Video not just calmly explain why they dislike D-Video, I think even you Niko is a bit against it, why

The fact is that we will get it, and I and many others want it to be made into a great feature, not just an add on

When did I close a thread I started on video? But anyway Pete let's please not go there yet again. I think regular readers to this forum already know how everyone feels about video. Do we really need another thread asking why? Again?

Why do we get into a war about D-Video, in many threads people have been accused of being a troll etc, threads have been closed even by the same person that started it (howdy Niko), it always gets into: I don't want because it takes away from the Still picture ability or something. or one the other hand its starts with but Canon has it etc

The fact is: Most DSLR and EVIL cameras will get D-Video, it would properly be difficult to purchase a DSLR without D-Video a year or so from now.

So why should we not want a better video function from our Nikon DSLR, If I was going to try to shot a video even if it turned out to be difficult to get a great result, my chance of getting the result could be improved if Nikon actually offered a better D-Video feature. That is not offered yet, but even a minor firmware update could offer some improvements.

Yes there is the Canon option, Lets just leave Canon out of this thread, this is a Nikon Forum right

So for all you that are so strongly against D-Video, WHY

Pete
