Guys this is a photography forum not a computer forum. Yes this thread was originaly about CS5 but sevencrossing you resurrect this thread to ask about your computer's specs. Wrong thread. Do a search for "best computer for photo editing" etc. There are lots of computer spec photo editing info in those threads.

I switched over all my computers to OS X over a year ago (maybe, two!), and I've done without Photoshop since then. Been editing my photos with just Aperture, which is really just an indexing program, with some editing ability. That, and OS X' built-in Preview application, which is actually pretty handy for quick, simple fixes, but only good for the most basic of corrections.

I had the Windows version of Adobe Design Premium CS1 suite, so I had everything: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop (plus their now, defunct web design application). I just downloaded the current CS5 trial, and it's AMAZING! Can't wait to be back in Adobeland.

We're probably about half way through until another upgrade but, frankly, CS5 was such a major overhaul that I wouldn't expect the next version to bring forward any earth shattering differences... Probably not until CS7 would that be the case... Just my two cents...

I bought the non-upgradeable, academic version of Final Cut Studio Pro (still, like a $1,000 USD), minutes before the brand new version came out a couple years ago. Does anyone know when a CS6 update is expected to come out? I'm just about to finally crossgrade my Adobe suite to OS X CS5 (all the way from Windows CS1), so I'd like to be at least mid-cycle on this one.

Seven; I don't think simply going to 64-Bit will help. I have 64-Bit Windows 7 and hit the same problem. What processor do you have?

I mainly use LR3 but since trying CS5, I find I am running out of memory, particularly with Content Aware. I am on a Dell M6400 PC laptop, 32 bit windows 7 , with 4 GB ram an external 30” monitor. Plenty of space on the hard drive, as the library is on an external drive .

I am looking at a new 64 bit Desk Top, but what spec do I need? All the adobe forums say the more RAM the merrier, but how much do I realistically need and what processor and graphics card do you use

Please Please don’t tell me to buy a Mac, it’s too late ,as I have invested too much in PC software, some of which does run on a MAC

Lawls, I'm still working on Photoshop CS2.

My employer has evidently negotiated a remarkable deal with Adobe - recently we had to purchase "maintenance licenses" for our academic copies of CS4 for about $60 USD. Ok, kind of a pain, but I want the updates so I said yes. I had no intention of upgrading to CS5. Then about a week ago, I get an email: everybody who sprang for the "maintenance" is eligible for a CS5 "upgrade" for $10. So, ours are kind of "cracked" as well. I know this may be deeply offensive to commercial users, but we're purchasing Adobe CS licenses by the high hundreds...

Still not ready to install CS5 on my main machine (which is still Leopard, not Snow Leopard.) I've heard that 32 bit plug-ins aren't happy in 64 bit mode. I'm not plug in crazy, but I really rely on Viveza and Noise Ninja and I'm not anxious to do their CS5 testing for them. Neither Nik Softaware nor Picture Code (Noise Ninja) expressly supports CS5 at this time (for those products). There are work arounds.

I'll put CS5 on my Mac Mini at home, which is already Snow Leopard - I lost Nikon NX in that deal. But I hated the UI anyway....

My Mac Pro started life as a base-level eight core machine with 4gb ram. I added the ram and several more hard drives. Much cheaper than ordering from Apple! That machine is an absolute pleasure to work on!

however here in china millions of people own PS CS3 or PS CS4 in their PC but nearly none of them paid Adobe; cracked versions instead.

20GB,that's a lot, you wont mind about the price of CS5 then

You guys just might be a bit sexist, if a person spouts nonsense (a la Ann Coulter or Sarah Palin) I think sometimes they just need a good smack in the head, male, female or anywhere in between.

Here are some results from playing around with it for a little while. I found a shot at ISO 200 from my D300 where I had forgotten to turn on the flash, so it was underexposed by 3.5 stops (which means it was basically ISO 2500 but probably a bit noisier because high ISO NR wouldn't have been applied). I've got three versions here.
original image (only blacks slider changed to 0)
corrected with no noise reduction (exp, wb changed—this is a big file because of the noise)
final edit (exp, wb changed and noise reduction applied)

I'm really impressed. I'm going to try a few low light shots this weekend and might even play around with the film grain effect that's new in LR3.

If anyone wants to try out that noise reduction shown in Niko's movie, you can get the LR3 beta ver 2 that lasts until June 30.

ANYWAY... yeah the noise sliders are pretty impressive.

It looks like I'm going to preorder LR3. Those noise sliders are in ACR and so are shared with LR. Warning, it's narrated by the same annoying woman, foofie.

Thanks for the find, Niko. I'm just hoping they improve LR's noise reduction at the same time. There's nothing there that will get me to upgrade from CS4, but I'll definitely get LR3 if it's got those noise reduction sliders.

Those noise removal tools look pretty nice compared to now. Content aware still freaks me out.

Well CS5 is here and dang it looks sweet. They've really upped it up for photographers with way better noise control, HDR, and auto lens correction with shareable lens profiles!
