That was not my shot of course, it is way too expensive for my budget, but is a good example of what you could do with this little and not too expensive 60mm (and you wanted some pixel–peeping so you could have plenty of it there).
On the other hand if you are after flowers and insects on full frame (like D700) you would probably do better with 105 VR, it will allow greater distance (a good thing especially for frightened little bugs) and it is great for shooting from hand, but it is also twice the price and not truly better optically IMHO.

lol oh ok...

60mm is a nice Macro lens.. maybe a bit short for nervous insects.. but still a very good lens... non nervous insects wont be a problem.. some spiders may jump on the lens if you get close to them though...I like insect photography so I got a sigma 150 f2.8 macro lens.. as a bonus, I also use that lens for stage events and portrait.

This ia one of my first pictures from my sigma macro.. Was too excited when I got it and even though it was raining I went into my backyard and chased wet insects.. Its a Banded Sugar Ant

The 60mm is good when you want a macro with identifiable background, if you want only bokeh behind your subject then the 105mm is the way to go.

I just got the D700 two days ago, and haven't had the time to shoot with the 60mm af-s yet. But i know it's way too short with FX for insect shots, it's OK for flowers and leaves. I also find it too short with DX so i got the 105mm Kiron.

Well,I'm planning to buy the Nikon D700(or its successor if it's available by then) in one or two years, but I'm already thinking about the glass. I'd mainly like to do macro work(flowers,leaves,insects...) and I'm looking at the micro-nikkor af-s 60/2.8.
Now I want to know how well it performs on FX bodies(best would be some full-sized sample shots for pixelpeeping), and how well it serves the purposes I described above.

thx
