I think the frame buffer is one of the worst things about the D90

And was one of the big reasons I moved up to a D300.

As a street/action shooter, I have pushed this many times. While very durable (I just dropped mine 8 ft on to dirt/cement a few hours ago, cuz I didn't fasten it to the bogen properly. It works fine and doesn't look too bad) the D90 has it's shortcomings and the frame buffer, and SD card only compatibility are one of them. If it took CF cards it might of had a better buffer...

It's actually 9 raw in the buffer if you have the right settings, Niko.

So that means you get around 2.5 seconds at 4.5/s before the buffer fills (a little bit more than what you'd expect because the camera can get a picture or two to the card and off the buffer by the time the buffer would have filled).

edit: I checked which setting will make the buffer 6 raw. Turning on long exposure noise reduction limits it to 6 (even if you're shooting with fast shutter speeds—this should be corrected in a firmware update, IMO). There may be others, but I checked high ISO NR and active D lighting and they don't affect it.

edit 2: Actually, with the cards I'm using (an 8GB class 4 and a 4GB class 6) I can only get 2 seconds (9 shots) before it starts to slow down. I guess I was being optimistic.

fps is 4.5 but you get to take 23 jpeg versus only 6 RAW photos before the buffer fills.

Thanks Jonnyapple...I had asked a rep from J*R and they told me to call the manufacturer. I was not sure if shooting in RAW would reduce the FPS. Thanks for the clarification
