@ sevencrossing...yes I like the idea of the second card to use when the first fills. I just hate to open anything on the camera in the field. In fact, I will carry a lot of equipment back to my car in order that I can change a lens in a controlled environment.

Now, if we can find our way back to the D5000 topic.... so, if someone wants to discuss cameras with Dual card slots...maybe it should be a new thread called "Dual Card Slots and Their Use"

Sorry this is nothing to with the D5000, which does not have dual cards

If does mean you you can use what ever cards you happen to have

With today's range of CF and SD cards, there seems to be very little difference

it looks like CF cards, will in time, be replaced by XQD

I only shoot RAW and don't bother with duplicating as the second copy can only be a jpeg. I feel the biggest risk of losing data, is changing a card in the field so I use the second card, when the first is full

For long time I was a CF ambassador, not anymore. Right now the speeds of CF's and SD's is comparable so why should I pay double for bigger (physically) size CF? Especially when shooting in 14bit RAW on d800 I can have only 200snaps on 16gb card.

A couple of questions...........it seems every thread I open, all the posts were made 2 years ago, or 6 months ago; how does one find the "recent stuff" ?

.........
Anyone have any comments ?

Yes, a comment....you do exactly what you have done and it brings the thread to the top of the list, and my guess is now a bunch of folks will add their thoughts and you will have the "recent stuff". As for me, I just use the fastest memory card, SD or CF or XQD or whatever.....

Two cards...I think is so you can have RAW on one and JPEG on the other or something like that.

Memory cards; I have read a lot about memory cards, and the more I read, the less I know. Does anyone have any ideas about this;
My D 300s has slots for one SD card, and one CF card; you can set them up about 3 dozen different ways; I can see the advantage
in having two memory cards in the camera, but I fail to see the advantage of having two different type cards; I hear people saying....I ALWAYS use CF cards.......I wouldn't use SD cards.......CF cards are just "so much" better ! That sounds to me like someone who has a very limited knowledge of media, how it's made, and how it works.

I realize most pro bodies have usually used the CF format; from what I read recently, ( Aug 2012 ), it looks like the memory card industry is starting to swing back the other way.

I have been searching around online for an external hard drive to use with my new Mac; I got on this companies website,
Media Distributors, and noticed their prices for LaCie HD's was higher than I can get at Best Buy; but when I checked out their prices for SanDisk SDHC cards, they looked pretty good.......SanDisk Extreme Pro, class 10 SDHC 16 GB A21 $ 25.34; 32 GB was $ 47.38

I always buy SanDisk; this is better than the last time I ordered them from B&H

Anyone have any comments ?

I would REALLY love to Upgrade my firmware, but my Camera will not recognize any card inserted into it, and thus, I cannot currently do this. I will be sending it into my Mack Warranty for repair.

HELP....My D5000 won't read an SD Card...ANY SD Card, when you insert the card their is a little green light that flashes on the camera...well mine isn't doing that and when I turn it on the Screen has an -E- and says No SD card inserted.
BTW My PNY Card went bad (I was just able to get my pics off the card) So I replaced it with a SanDisk Ultra 30 mb/s 16 gb card. At first the new card would not click in, then my son messed with it a little and told me I had to push harder, well the spring part of it appeared to be broken and I had to manually pull the card out. At least it was working, so yesterday I has taken some pictures and took the card out to download them and went to put it back into the camera and the green light flickered and all at once the spring is working again but when I turned it on, it said No SD Card inserted, so I removed it and put it back in, this time, no green light flickering and after taking out and inserting..at least 200 times, it won't work. BTW No other cards will work and the new card works in the computer fine....HELP!

I've never had a problem with any brand I've used, although some are slower than others. I've used, SanDisk, Lexar, Patriot, and Kingston. Avoid A-DATA, I've hear too many stories of cards being much slower than they are rated for or priced for.
