PB PM- Is correct AF-s lens it should be ignored. In the menu controls f9 custom command dials/ aperture setting is ON the aperture ring will only work in M and A mode.

saultv- If the lock on the aperture ring is not locked it will stay wide open and if you try to close it it wil give you an fEE. That is in all modes M.P.S.A.

saultv said:
PB PM, well, the lenses are stocked in the wide aperture...the DX in f3.5 and AFNikkor in the F2.8....and theres nothing to make the move into a high aperture...
Thanks fmrnykr for your suggestion, I will try it.

Does an error come up? When you are in full manual on AFD lenses you have to move the aperture ring yourself - at least I'm fairly sure.

On the 18-105 I'm not sure.

I would "reset" the camera to default settings and see if that works. Sounds more like you may have changed a setting that is keeping you from doing what you want too. I do that every once in a while - damned if I know what I changed but that usually works.

Strange. Under settings (under "Control" settings and "Command Dials") there are ways to change whether you use the physical aperture ring (AF/AF-D lenses) or the front command dial. Check to see if yours are set to Sub Command Dial or Aperture Ring. If you have that set to aperture ring (which forces you to turn the ring on the lens), which would lock out the controls on the camera?

I don't know if that is it, because when using AF-S lenses that setting should be ignored.

Saulty,

I don't have an 800, but a D3s, and the menus may be the same.

Under shooting menu make sure you have the image area set to AUTO DX to ON.

Hope this helps.

My D800 acquired recently doesn't recognize the DX 18-105 f3.5 and an AF Nikkor 24-85 f2.8 lenses in M mode. They work fine in the other programable modes. In the other hand the D800 recognize and works perfectly with the others manual lenses I have in spite they are 30 years old!!! those are I used with my first Nikon FM2!!! from a 55mm 2.8 Micro Nikkor through 28mm2.8 Nikkor Serie E. After this explanation does somebody know if I made a mistake in the configuration of the D800 or is there something I didn't?. Thanks to all for any help.
