That is a good point. A few years ago Kodak was the top P&S seller, but then all of their P&S cameras started to have crappy build quality and poor results, then everyone switched to other brands.

We received tons of this Nikon COOLPIX S220 in Europe in the last couple of months and it was selling really cheap everywhere, even supermarkets.
But it is the worst P&S Nikon has ever made, and Nikon wasn’t too successful designing P&S cameras anyway so, in my opinion, this huge numbers will eventually backfire because I really doubt much of the customers who bought this disaster will ever again look for Nikon …

the new one support SD, the old one - 2009 versions doesn't; what I like about this P&S is the ability to take panoramas - never before I've taken any pano shot so easily

I think some of the newer Sony cameras do. Not sure about point and shoot, though.

I refuse to buy Sony products on principal, and I've never bothered to look at the Nikon point and shoot cameras. There are some nice Panasonic and Canon ones, but the price of the ones I'd like cost as much as an entry level DSLR, which = not going to buy them.

I found one that suites my needs, it's sony DSC-WX1, had two coolpixes before, and will (probably) never get another one.

Its just that most people here don't link P&S, I don't think that is limited to the Nikon models. Personally I would love to see a P&S that would fit my needs, but none of the ones that do are priced in a range that I would pay for a P&S.

The replacement model is the recently announced S3000 which is probably why Nikon is "launching" the press event on March 8th. Like it or not Nikon does very well with it's COOLPIX line despite all the hate'n in forums.
