inside: 200/2 and 70-200/2.8
outside sport: 300/2.8, 400/2.8, 600/4

the 70-200 2.8 is great all around lens its fast and sharp lens.
I used the 70-200 at NHL games and drag races, along with an 85mm f1.4
My favorite lens for many 180mm f2.8 it costs alot less and produces AWESOME images

I also have old manual focus lenses 300 f2.8, 400mm f3.5, 600mm f5.6

Start with the 70-200 and a teleconverter. And reassess the situation from there as needed.

Longer lenses have smaller depth of field.
I would personally go for 70-200 for greater versatility ...

For soccer and field hockey the 70-200mm VR and the TC14EII or TC17E, for when you need extra reach.

I'd say the nikon 400 f/2.8 but that is kinda pricey...

I'm looking to a purchase a new lense for sports photography. A good all round primary lense to use for indoor and outdoor sports. I will shooting some baseball, track outdoors, soccer and field hockey. I'm looking to purchase a 70-200 VrII. Should I get a 300mm for the longer length and greater depth of field? Any suggestions from some sport photographers?
