more feedback on my d90
- it's visibly smaller than d200, and therefore if You have big hands it doesn't fits as good - balances better with shorter lenses - 24-70 - perfect combo, with 70-200+tc it needs grip (at least for me)
- IQ in high iso is really good - at least two stops from my d200
- smaller file size, on d200 I got 15mb files, now with higher resolution I got only 10mb - I guess that d90 by default compresses the image (anyone know a way to turn off the compression)
- less number of buttons - it's really ain't a problem as You can customize some of them to suite Your needs
- as for videos I don't have any problems with opening them on mac

so far, really nice walk around camera, good as a second body, as for handling d200 is much better, IQ quite similar on base ISO, much better once You cross iso 800, AF speed very similar

The 70-200 is a big lens too. It's just the combination of zooming and focusing will take some getting used to. I really want the 24-70 as well.

Any idea how to get the videos to be recognized by video players and photobucket so I can share them?

I found with video, that a larger focus ring is better for fine tuning the focus. For example, the 24-70 has a better focusing ring because it is a much larger lens than the kit lens and therefore better to control.

It's a VR lens. As far as being harder, I'd say it's just different. I tend to adapt my grip to whatever I'm using at the time. For example, on the D300 I tend to shoot with my middle finger but on the D90 I use my index finger. Both feel equally comfortable to me perhaps because I have dexterous long fingers.

Video is another matter. That may require some to be finger contortionist!

Gentoo - thats a very nice and sharp bird image. It also pays to have a decent lens. Is the 70-200 harder to hold still on the D90 compared with a D300/700 body? Or is your 70-200 a VR lens?

I've gotten used to the AF. All I had to do is set it differently than what I might use on my D300. This is now the camera I take to work with me as I like carrying it around in my pack.

check this out:

http://www.pbase.com/shonn/image/112555646

This was with my trusty 70-200mm2.8 which is all I need at work. Yes the bird is wild but fairly tame. Tow things I need to fix, one is I need capture NX2 so I can use RAW with it. The other is I cannot get the videos to play or upload in photobuckets video uplaod. I don't really work with video so I'm sure there's something simple I overlooked.

adamz:
congrats on your acquisition too :)

Congrats D90 owners! I've bought my D90 upon release and have snapped over 10,000 shots and lots of family videos. It's a truly remarkable camera. The D90 is the perfect outdoor day-tripper for me (using the 18-200mm VR) which does everything and is easy to carry and is a low burden on the shoulder/neck.

Other things that made me really happy with the D90:
- Battery life is awesome - hammers all day long (Nikon says 850 clicks with flash!).
- The built-in flash is excellent (compared to other built-in flashes). Used as CLS master is a real bonus!
- The picture control modes really brings the photos to life. Eg. Vivid mode properly shows nice rich colors.
- The video quality is much better than P&S videos - but needs time to get the hang of it (manual focus etc).
- Fast frame rate - 4.5 fps - I shot racing cars going are a corner - all came out clear.
- AF Motor - now you can buy a cheap 50mm f1.8 and it works really good for indoor portraits!
- Another thing thing overlooked is the LCD screen - it is amazing quality! + having a top mono LCD saves battery and time.
- SD Cards! Cheaper to buy and easier to transfer images to laptop's built-in card reader.
- The build quality and grip is excellent - never dropped it (touch wood!)
- Its easy to cuddle under my pillow at night - just kidding! =).

I am so pleased to choose Nikon - they are leaps ahead of the competition in terms of design and ergonomics.
