I don't think EN-EL3e batteries have enough current to run the D3.

little bit off topic, but have some of You used EN-EL3e batteries with d3, I presume that once You are able to use d3 battery in MB-d10 than You could do the same the other way (using the EN-EL3e adapter) - I know that it doesn't make too much sense but still will it work?

Yup Nikon is doing a good job with batteries, Canon on the other announced another new battery type with the T2i, which they seem to do every few years in the consumer space, and they are never backwards compatible. On the other hand, Nikon added the EN-EL9a last year, and it was just an improvement on an older battery. Whats even better is that it remained backwards compatible. Heck, Nikon even gave the D40 a firmware update so it could use the new batteries.

It is pretty gracious and consumer-oriented to have so many grades of camera all on the same battery, though. Cheers for Nikon.

I'm glad Nikon uses the EN-EL-3e in so many bodies pro-sumer D90/D300 and semi-pro D700, leaves lots of room for upgrades to move up without changing battery types.

No
D60, D40, D3000, D5000 = EN-EL9a (smaller)
D90,D80,D300/S = EN-EL3e (bigger)
