I think I'll wait till this Xmas for the 70-200 VR2 then, I'm hoping for a rebate or SOMETHING in the U.S. market. . .if I can get it at $1999, I'll be "okay". . .if I can manage the 24 1.4 for $1699, might get that first, but don't know, a fast telephoto has been the largest gap in my shooting. . .(and renting them is getting old). . .

Nikon lens prices are often a function of supply & demand and price changes from dealers - rather than Nikon USA changing the price. In fact, manufacturer lens price changes are rare. Instead you'll see rebates or "instant savings", etc...

When lenses are difficult to obtain, their prices stay at the MAP (minimum advertised price) - or perhaps even higher. (The original 18-200mm VR or 35mm 1.8 are good examples) But, when a great lens becomes plentiful on dealer shelves, the prices seem to ease down a bit. In fact, lenses from Nikon & Canon are often high profile "loss leaders" - sold at or near the dealer's actual cost - because a lens buyer usually also gets a few accessories like filters, cases, etc...

Watch closely, and you'll see the same lens prices go up & down over time as supply & demand changes. Pricing, it seems, is no longer necessarily tied to dealer costs.

The 50/1.4G is $429.95 and the 24-70/2.8 is $1,739.95. The 50 used to be 449.95, the 24-70 was 1,799.95 (4% and 3% respectively).

WOW - with Canadian vendors (I don't mind sending it to Nikon Canada if I have to), you get a wicked deal! Almost $2100 USD. . .that's about as much as the old lens was. . .hmmm. . .remarkable, I wonder why the other lenses are dropping though (50 1.4G and 24-70 2.8). . .where are they at ted2001 pricing wise?

I bought the 50 1.4G for $394 ish on pre-order. . . .is it cheaper than that now?

I've noticed quite a few Nikon lenses go down in price recently. The 50/1.4G, 24-70/2.8, etc. have gone down a bit. I wonder whether this is based on competitive pressures or the recent strength of the dollar.

Anyone notice the new 70-200 on amazon retailing for $2319?! I wonder if this is because of the "controversy" or just normal corrections in pricing. . .

Confirms waiting on these lenses. . .esp the new 24 1.4 and 16-35/4, I think Nikon is pricing too aggressive and will have to adjust by at least 1-5% after introduction. . .

Makes me wonder if we'll get rebates end of year. . .would love that, I think the last time they did that was in 2005 and it was literally on all lenses (70-200, 80-200, 10.5 fisheye, etc. . .)
