btw, the Tokina is in stock at both Adorama and B&H. $600, but the 77mm multi-coated B&W filter in thin mount is $116.

I've got the 10-24 and differ about it's sharpness. Mine is excellent. The Tokina might also be an excellent lens, but it is more limited in it's application. The Nikon has very fast auto-focus and zooms to 36mm making it usable for more than just ultra-wide shooting. I find mine very handy for street shooting in close quarters, like San Francisco's China Town.

Whether or not you like Ken Rockwell (I can now hear the roars), he has a good discussion of theses two lenses. He likes them both.

I just sold my 12-24DX because I upgraded to FX. The lens was awesome while I used it. Took some amazing landscapes with it. Just sold it to my brother for $600, so you could look at the 12-24 as good option used since its easy to find cheap.

I would not recommend the 10-24 Nikon - over priced, slow, and soft. . .yawn. . .

As I said in another thread, I triple the Tokina 11-16. Absolutely love it.

I've also got the 16-85 and 70-300. I very highly recommend Nikon's 10-24.

If I were looking for the old thread, I wouldn't have found it.

I recommend the Tokina 11-16. Especially since you already have the 16-85.

I own the 10-24mm and use it on my D300 and love it. I have several other Nikkors, but the 10-24mm stays on my body almost half the time. I use 2 other primes, 18-200mm most of the other time. I have the 70-300mm VR, but I do not use it much.

The Nikon 12-24mm and Tokina 12-24mm F4 DX lenses are good, about par, with the Tokina costing a lot less.

I am interested in adding a good quality DX wide angle lens to my collection to use with my D80 camera. My existing lenses are 50mm 1.8, 16-85mmVR and 70-300mmVR. I have a interest in landscape and wide angle photography. I have a strict budget around 1000.00 and wanted to know what my options are. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
