No kidding. Of course there are some Canon photographers who feel the issue is more do with quality control, than actually having a bad system. I've read a few blogs from photographers who shoot with 5D MkIIs and they think the AF is just fine.

What I meant is that the 5D had crappy AF and they STILL didn't fix it with the 5D2 after 3 years. 3 years is a long time in technology.

I think the reason for updating the 5D MKII would due to the poor reputation that the 5D series has in terms of auto focus.

if they start to replace the cameras too often than it will only make their customers pissed more, I think that there is a line which shouldn't be crossed - and canon apparently is closer to it than ever before , but that is just my personal opinion

Well it took them a long time (3 years) to replace the 5D so if they replace the 5Dm2 after less than 2 years I would think it's because of competition from their own 7D and future Nikon models.

I doubt Canon is worried too much about Nikon, and what they release. It took them 3 years to make a camera (7D) that could match the performance of the D300, and it didn't hurt their sales very much. I think they go by their own timeline.

I think Canon is doing it because they can.

Like the D70 was a game changer, the D80 was ho hum, and the D90 was amazing.

Same thing- the D100 was amazing, the D200 was okay, and the D300 was amazing. The D300s isn't much of a big difference from the D300.

There is already a rumor that canon has moved up the 5DmkII replacement. The 5Dmk3 is said to have a much improved version of the 7D auto focus and even better video capabilities. It is now expected later this year or early 2011.

Could Nikon's D700 replacement be such a game changer that canon is being forced to move up the 5Dmk2 replacement?
