It seems silly, but best feature in aperture is the "F" key. One button access to a full screen view of your photos. Why oh why is this not in all photo software.

I'm also in. Love aperture, for me it's much more logical than Lightroom, You only need to get used to it, as the first contact is much better on the Adobe side, but once You get used it's much faster than Lightroom (IMHO at least).

Apple hasn't skipped anything. I've used all Mac OSs 7, 8, 9, and each version of X (Cheetah 10.0, Puma 10.1, Jaguar 10.2, Panther 10.3, Tiger 10.4, Leopard 10.5, and Snow Leopard 10.6). I still use OS 7 on my old PowerBook 190 and OS 9 on my PowerPCs. According to Wikipedia, they even had a Mac OS 6, which was called merely "System 6." Now, about 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and 0, I really don't know.

As for Aperture 3 or X, I will definitely upgrade. I'm just getting started with Aperture 2 and I love it. Whatever improvements Apple will make to the next installment should be well worth it.

Nope, OS9 was released in 1999, and support was dropped in 2002. I used it on my Power Mac G4 for years before finally switching to OSX when 10.4 came out.

Yes, OS9 was "classic", while OSX was based on open BSD.

Can you point to the rumor about Aperture 3? I've not seen any rumors on any of the major Apple rumor sites since September.

The lastest rumor is that it will be called Aperture3 and will be announced on Jan 27th. The biggest OS jump was from 9 to 10 wasn't it?

I don't recall ever hearing that OSX was a placeholder, it was logical, the last version was OS9...

Well, I doubt it would be called Aperture "X". That was just a name given to a, still unreleased book, and "X" is often used as a placeholder in situations like that.

Last rumor was that they will release it as Aperture X, but that was back in September or so. I'm really curious to see where AAPL goes with it though. Aperture 2 was a very solid work product (could be better for retouching).

If they can tack on native noise removal (good stuff, not some lame smudge & blur algorithm they ripped off from PhotoPro Studio Shop 2000). And possibly something like what you get from NIK's u-point technology, I'd be all over it. They already have the Instant Alpha tool in iWork, so somebody at Apple knows a thing or two about masking.

The leak last fall had the release date pinned for May 2010... so there's that.

Nope. I've got enough on my hands trying to keep straight with NX2 and Lightroom 2 (and beta 3)

I would highly consider upgrading if there were any substantial changes, other than just making it 64bit.

Anyone planning on updating to the newer version? Expected announcement is planned for Jan 27th along with the new apple tablet :^)
