Only thing I can think is that they are adding VR. Seems kind of like a silly thing to do if you ask me. I own the 18-55, and the 18-55VR and can't really tell the difference. VR doesn't seem to be much help at wider angles (it could be usefull at the long end of the lens on DX).

I doubt they will replace this lens, as it's really one of the best Nikon lenses, so I presume it's just a temporary shortage.

Wow... it is selling for 2k at Amazon (through Cameta). Maybe stock is running low.

Just curious, why did you need to exchange yours.? I had to exchange mine in January. The zoom would stick and was not very smooth. The new one is perfect.

24-70mm are OUT OF STOCK at B&H and Adorama. Just when I shipped mine back for an exchange. Does anyone know how long it takes for B&H to receive a shippment again?
