Based om my experience with my D700.

1. Thicker and more well adhered rubber in the gripping positions.
2. More longevity from AA batteries in the V-Grip when shooting at high FPS.
3. A hand strap attachment similar to Canon. (I hate using neck straps but do require a strap for some level of assurance.

Nikon has done a lot right with the D700 and many of their dSLR's. In my opinion, the D700 is just a few minor tweeks away from perfection.

My D700 (crazy high actuations) will unfortunately be part of the trade in plus my Leica 35mm F2 Summicron ASPH for the D800 as long as the new body does not cost over 5 grand I should be alright. 300,000 Yen is the apparent fixed price, but obviously nobody knows for sure. This is around 4,500,000 Korean Won or $3900 USD. Come on Nikon make it happen! :)

I think limited it to three is more than enough.

1) Resolution in the 18-24mp range.
2) Iso performance closer to the D3s. I'd love to have actual useful shots at least all the way up to 6400. For example 6400=800 on the D700 right now would be wonderful.
3) Reduction in weight switching to a lighter alloy?

These three things would be great and I think the improved dynamic range would really be elevated to the point of a dream landscape camera.

(#3)In camera post raw editing (namely curves and starring)

I really want a waterproof f-mount dslr (which is possible) but is not financially feasible enough that nikon would ever bother to make one :(

For my D90, my vote would be for a higher resolution display, built in body stabilization, and a bigger variety of slower shutter speeds, down to 10 minutes or more (requiring a menu option to enable them so that people who don't need them accidentally activate it).

Great idea - That would be nice for macro and distance! The 105 can hunt if there isn't a horizontal or vertical line. I was shooting some flying bids this morning and just needed the focus to move between 15-25ft at 2.8 to knock the background out.

I would like some on the fly tagging options that you can save. I would also like multiple "my menu" lists so I can have just the options for portraiture/studio, wildlife, sports, macro available.

Indeed- I'm surprised it's not offered on the D3 series- it'd be wonderful for sports.

Perhaps because the focus limiter on the 105mm macro is quite inverted- it's optimized for distant objects, not for macro, so it hunts quite a bit for me. I mean, I manual focus and motor drive a bit to hope for a nice shot, but it'd be nice if they reversed the limiter to optimize for macro shooting.

casperwb said:
do not know about the 105mm Nikon Micro, but my Tokina 100mm Macro offers this.

it is nice to see how many of the features that folks asked for that have become standard in todays cameras.

Maybe Nikon monitors this forum.

I just checked the 105mm- either you set it for focus from closest to infinity, or from .5m all the way to infinity.

.5m is about 1.5 feet, that's no where close to macro. I guess it's because I'm using a really low end body, but it hunts a bit for me.

A lot of those features asked for were from film era stuff. Especially with the D7000 moving upwards, it's no surprise some features were added in.

I really like that intervalometers are built in for the most part now.

And I love how one of the old posters really did not want mirrorless Nikons. I wonder what he thinks about it now. :D

I just thought of a new feature that'd be nice- focus limiting in your camera.

The 105mm macro is annoying in that sense- there's no limiter from say, 3 feet to closest focus. I forget what the two settings are. But they aren't optimized for macro focusing- either it's full or it's like 2ft to infinity.

D300 user (with a D90 on the way)

1.Modular parts like the sensor. How nice would it be to simply replace the sensor when a newer and better one came out?

2. Auto bracketing with anything that effects the look of pictures to include things like Active D-Lighting and picture controls.

3. If video is going to be a new standard feature, auto focus with it (I'm sure others may have mentioned this). What's the use of shooting a moving subject if the focus can't track? Sort of defeats the purpose of a video.
