Busted. Like I said besides the exif info there is no way Nikon would "field test" a secret new lens/camera in such a dangerous part of the world.

There seem to be quite a few errors in the data around the cpu data. Additionally, if you fire a flash with a Power Wizard, that data is also wrong.

settle said:
On a D200, and I assume newer models, if you correctly set the Non-CPU data in the menu system, then the EXIF data will correctly state the lens data, including the used f-stop. If you incorrectly set the Non-CPU data or switch lenses without updating the Non-CPU data, the EXIF data will be incorrect.

True it will show the focal length and the used f-stop correctly but for the fun of it check the Max Aperture Exif Tag.

I just EXIF-checked one of my own images that I took with a non-CPU lens (can't exactly call it AIS), and it indicates it's also an ƒ/1, which means the EXIF will always make that mistake with AIS lenses. In other words, I was wrong, there's no NIKKOR 35mm ƒ/1.

Yeah non CPU Ai-S lenses will show up with a max. Aperture of f/1 in the Exif even if the lens was entered with the correct max. Aperture in the manual lens table of the camera

Well, the camera was a D700 so the proper EXIF should be there. When I used Ai-S lenses on my D70 all I got was "manual lens-no CPU" or something like that for lens info.

You need to specify the lens in the non CPU lens menu to get exif data from Ai-S lenses. If the camera doesn't have metered Ai-S lens capability, it will not record the lens info.

LOL admin, welcome to the forum community for a change! :^D

So, you want to ban me like Niko says? ;^)

Anyway, to answer your question, I believe that if you enter the lens data into your camera it should supply the focal length with the EXIF.

Are you sure that's a NIKKOR in the EXIF? What I see is that the lens used was a 35mm ƒ/1, does such a thing exist?

Also, I don't see any AF data, so I doubt it's a new lens.

EDIT: I did a search and couldn't find any 35mm ƒ/1s. I suspect it's just an EXIF error then, because the lens is an AIS.

I believe it does. Judging by the info in the exif I think it's the old lens. I doubt Nikon would give a "secret" lens to a photojournalist to take into such a dangerous place as Somalia/Yemen.

My questions is about the Nikon AIS 35mm 1.4 lens (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/36949-USA/Nikon_1429_Wide_Angle_35mm_f_1_4.html/BI/2446/KBID/3285) - will tis lens leave focal length data in the EXIF file? I do not have any AIS lenses and I don't know if they have contacts.

The reason I am asking is this photo:
http://www.noorimages.com/typo3temp/pics/2e6c1a43cf.jpg

the EXIF says 35mm f/1.4, so is the old AIS or the new, soon to be announced, AF-S 35mm f/1.4? Is it normal for this lens to come up as "Aperture priority" in the EXIF file?
What do you guys think?
