aijaa Monty, ihan kiva tiedää.

Estonian is, I think, the only language that has some close similarities to finnish. I always got a little confused in Tallinn when I overheard people because I could understand 10% or so of every sentence, and nothing else :)

I can help with Bulgarian and occasionally in Russian.
Although, we share most of the expressions, but written in Cyrillic, we have specific words for some of the terms.
Similar examples:
Camera – камера
Photographer – фотограф (photograph).
Altho we have for photo camera – фотокамера (same pronunciation), but mostly we use to name it фотоапарат (comes from photoaparatus).
And completely different terms for:
Aperture – бленда (Pronounced - blenda)
Speed – скорост (Pronounced - skorost)
Lens – обектив (sounds like objective) or in jargon – стъкло (Pronounced - stu(a)klo and direct translation is - glass).

I would not want to live there at this time, Mexico is sadly falling apart, bit by bit

My Parents are Canadian Snow Birds and spend most of their winter months in Mesa, but also Spend some time maybe near your place, Edinburg, McAllen or something like that, they were real close to the border anyway

My grandparents were from Spain and France though I'm sure we have descendants from all over the globe by now. Mexico is such a beautiful country, it's a shame the drug war is giving it such a bad reputation :^(

No, actually camera's not universal. It's "fotograf makinesi" or "photo machine" in Turkish.

As for the other too, give me a moment... (shhh, don't tell anyone I'm using google translate!)

aperture - "diyafram" or "açıklık" (I know "açıklık" means opening)

shutter - "fotoğraf makinesi kapağı" which is like "camera cover"

I have trouble remembering how to translate back and forth between languages sometimes. When I'm trying to explain ISO, shutter and aperture in other languages I confuse myself and the person I'm explaining it to.

Hey we should share how you say some basic photography terms in various languages.

Chris how do you say Aperture and Shutter in Finnish? Alpha what about Turkish?
I was going to ask about camera but I think that's pretty much universal.

LOL, you beat me :^D

I speak English with a heavy Persian-Turkish accent. Today I'm no longer to speak Persian or Turkish (forgot them when my parents started teaching me English), though I still understand "home-economics" Turkish so I can eavesdrop on my parents ;^)

I've never had trouble learning photography, it's always been communicating with others what I've learned through talking. Nobody understands me, so I always have issues with things like that :^(
