shiva - I haven't seen any good prices on d300 or d3 since the launch of both of them. Here in Poland You can get a new d300s for app 5000PLN and used d300 for 4000 - 1USD = +/- 3PLN.

Yes Poster you can reset the shutter count. A trick "dishonest" people do before they want to sell their/stolen cameras is to reload the firmware to the camera they want to sell. Then they shoot off a ton of "pictures" to get the count back up to a couple 1000 clicks. They then tell you the camera is like new and hasn't been used very much.

My D70 only shows about 24,000 clicks, but I know it's actually more like 90,000!

Wow, thanks for the info.

I recently got D200 for $400 with under 10k actuations. Now I am afraid that it might be higher. Ohh well can't do anything about it now.

I would actually wait. . .with the D900 on the heels, and from finally judging the accessories, it looks like it'll be compatible with the MBD10 and other D300/D700 accessories (i.e., it's probably FX). . .that means the used market will get saturated FAST. . .thankfully, dSLRs are now purchased by the casual family man with lots of money who is easily susceptible to marketing and advertising. . .

Look at what happened with the D3s/D300s release? There are SO MANY nice D3/D300 bodies on the market now. . .so I'd imagine D700 bodies will be rife as well. . .

Of course it's not bad adamz, but my point is that unless you know/trust the person who's selling it you shouldn't think 5000 clicks is a good buy.

When the D800/900 is announced I'm sure the used market is going to get flooded with "like new" D700s :^(

And I would risk and go for the cheaper version, for $600 You can buy a nice lens and 55k articulations is not that bad.

"NEW YORK CITY?!? Get a rope" What the heck are you doing way up there, lol?Welcome to the forum NYCTexan :^)

I'd go for the new one if it's "only" $600 dollars difference between a used and new.

Don't forget shutter counts can be reset! Is this a reputable place or person your thinking of buying from?

WHAT??

You have to be joking here. Really? I didn't know you can reset actuations count. WTF?

I say go for it. You will pocket the money, and get yourself a grip or a nice Sigma or Nikon 50mm lens.

Hahaha. I love Texas, but NYC is the greatest. I am thinking of buying the camera off Craigslist, so no, I don't know this guy. I did google him and found his Flickr and similar info, so I don't think he's trying to pull a fast one. And of course it would depend on seeing the camera in person, with my 24-70 on it, giving it a good inspection.

I didn't know shutter counts could be reset. That's mildly terrifying.

Thanks.

Oh and GO HORNS!!

I haven't looked on the used market for comparative pricing, but only 5.5K? Sounds pretty good to me. I paid almost 1K more for mine (new).

....$1800? 5.5K actuations, less than a year old. I'm thinking about upgrading and think this seems like a good deal. Maybe try to drop $100 off the price.

Thoughts?

Thank you!

EDIT: I can get a new one from B&H, shipped to Jersey, no tax, $2400. Just trying to weigh the options!
