It was likely either Carol or Edna. As for moving cars, my parents have a car in NY that lives in the 4th floor of a garage, no problems there. But in a place like New York where there are well over 100,000 cars parked on the street at any given moment (and all garages are full), it's not quite so easy to move your car to higher ground regardless of how much warning you get. Where do you take it, up the four flights of stairs to your apartment? Out of the city to New Jersey or Connecticut? Those places were hit just as bad.

msmoto says......

We all need to think a moment about the destruction. Not at all unlike the Tsunami in many respects. But the force was spread out over a larger area with less intense destruction and markedly less loss of life. May those who pray, keep the folks who have suffered in their hearts. And others may just think positive thoughts about these folks.

I couldn't agree more ! I have watching TV most of the day now (6 PM Tues), and some of the video from NYC and NJ is just terrible !
Here's what I don't understand though; it's not like this storm was a big "surprise"........they have been yakking about it for a full WEEK for heavens sake! Even predicting major flooding, (quite correctly as it turns out), yet, apparently people just "blow it off", and leave their cars sitting on the street ! Unbelievable ! Now there are hundreds, THOUSANDS, of cars submerged in salt water ! I'm as "charitable" as the next guy, but it's pretty hard, helping people who refuse to help themselves.

For example.........in about 1953 (or 54), I was stationed on the U.S.N. Sub Base in New London, Ct. There was many times LESS warning about hurricanes back then, but we got word from the Navy Dept. that a Hurricane was "imminent", and that the lower base, (which is right by the Thames River, and is where I worked and parked my car and my motor cycle), would experience severe flooding; I hustled out and moved both my 49 Ford and my "almost new" Harley up to the Upper Base, (which was 150 higher than the lower base parking lots)

A few hours later, the parking lot where I had moved my vehicles from, was about 8 feet deep ! ( I wish I could remember the name of that hurricane )...........it tore the beach area around New London all to "h**L" !

Hey guys, just so you know, my whole family lives in NYC. It's a major disaster, particularly in the low-lying outer boroughs where many of these places keep their warehouses. Plus, a huge chunk of downtown is still without power. To compound the problem, the subways are filled with corrosive salt water and are days away from opening, so they couldn't staff their warehouses even if they could get them open. Plus, the tunnels in and out of Manhattan are flooded and most bridges are closed. Even the airport runways look to be under a foot of water. I'd add a week or so to any delivery time for any item you ordered from NY/NJ.
Not saying you (Parke) are not being thoughtful, just wanted to give you all a little taste of what I'm hearing from my family.

Ordered LR4 from B&H Sunday. Called B&H today because my order was still pending and i thought I did something wrong when I ordered (forgot about the storm and how wide spread it was). They said the warehouse was closed due to the storm and should open tomorrow. Maybe. Told them that I hoped everyone was ok and that I can wait and it's not a problem. Wow that was a bummer. I need to pay more attention to what is happening. I don't watch much TV. Being on the West Coast and not directly affected I think I lose track of what is really happening and for that I am sorry. I guess it's like back in 89 (i think) when we had the earthquake unless you where here or there you really don't know what it's like. I will be more thoughtful in the future.

The devastation must have been incredible as some websites were offline for several hours today.

I have to think that Sandy will shut down shipments from all the NYC camera stores for a week or more. I'm waiting on a refurbished D800. Ordered last week, but didn't receive an email confirming shipping. Looks like the wait will be longer.

It's not a problem. Getting a camera is nothing compared to the devastation in that area.

Has anyone heard anything directly from any of the major camera stores?
