People who bought a D3X don't tend to get kicked in the pants by such developments. They just buy the next best thing as soon as its released and then go on with their rather fortunate lives. ;]

I mean it can be. But i doubt at the price of 2000-or 2500. Id say close to 3grand. and have the D400 in the 1800-2100 range as a FX camera

It may be a kick in the pants for D3x users, but then they have a higher end camera. They've also had that sensor for almost two years now. Technology and time march on, such is life. That's like saying D2X users got a kick in the pants when the D300 came out.

Because the D3x is a 24mp camera that is 7500. If nikon releases a d800 at 24 mp and has better iso. It is a kick in the ass of all those photographers who paid 7-8 grand on the d3x. I'm thinking the D400 will be a mini d3s at 2500 but the d800 under the rumors to cost more as a mini d3x

At $3500 it would be a tough sell, not to mention leaving a huge gap between it and the DX line, unless the D400/D9000 is a $2000-2300 camera body.

It will be of course a direct competitor to the Canon 5d mk iii so i would have to go with 2500 to 2800 plus tax.

Normalement can also mean "expected", rather than normally. It's expected release date. Most publish have tentative release dates this far in advance. It's obviously not a finished product yet, so it can't have an exact date.

This may or may not be the author. Maybe someone with Facebook (I don't have an account) can send him a message to see if he has any details.

Jumping from the blog - "This is a book that will NORMALLY be available in March 2011."

Anyone else read the word "Normally"? What does that mean? Maybe photo tip book are normally released in March. Or maybe the publisher has told the writer he had better have something out - especially if he was paid forward.

I don't see this confirming anything. It looks like a standard place holder to me. If some writer had a camera, the book would be released almost at the same time. I seriously doubt that Nikon has sent writers cameras 5+ months out.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it yet this year though.

I'm not so sure. The D3s has been the best marketing tool Nikon has had for the D700 and has sold fairly well to high end users.

I was hoping for a big and small body replacements D4 better then the D3s and the D800 to be a mini D3s or D4. I like the idea of a 24 mp D800 but only if the price tag is reasonable. If not and it's 4k-4.5k usd then I'd stay with the D4 and my D3 or upgrade to the D3s as my secondary. This shoots down my thoughts of selling my D3 for a D4/d800 combo

I really hope the D800 is not turned into an empty MP race camera from what the D700 is now........which is the best field FX camera for still made today. I sure could use HD video on mine. But I want real performance and a fair price not inflated MP count and staggeringly high price. I also think they should keep the D700 body size for the replacement.

The D800 book is just a place holder by the publisher. The D700 replacement will sell best with a price tag very close to the D700 initial price.

I cant see the D800 being affordable in anyway if it has a 24mp sensor with the same iso capablities of the D3x. It will KILL the d3x if it is released like that. and would be priced at 4000$ish compared to the d3x's 7000grand body.

There has to be another Fx camera in the workup that is a mini D3s.

We've had book rumors on a D700 replacement before. They are usually just place holders and don't really mean anything. Don't read too much into it. There are D900 and D400 books out there too.

I had to do a quick topic search for this post, as I knew there was a D800 link somewhere. Rumors reporting now that according to a French book due out in February 2011, there may be a Nikon D800 released sometime around then. The book is called "Getting the Most Out of Your Nikon D800" or close to that title after translation. We'll see I guess, but it is after all just a rumor and books get produced all the time. One can always hope though :)

I don't thing that the price is an issue with the new DSLR's because the price is not that high compared to the older models. Compare the prices between the D300 and D300s, it was only few dollars.
Of course they're not going to compete with HD video cameras because of the quality compression but still you can get some interesting footage. To me this is more an firmware issue which it can be fixed. Maybe not as Canon did it with extra 30min long recording but with in that 5 min of recording I think that Nikon can mange to squeeze the extra pixel. They say that the EXSPEED is quiet fast which means that I am sure that it can process the extra resolution. SO Nikon have to rewrite the firmware and at the extra features or at least fox the auto mode in DMOVIE.

You were suggesting a separate “video firmware” not a whole new camera with different motherboard utilizing faster memory bandwidth, CPU and sensor, different AF etc … as far as I know none of the current photo cameras have all this features except maybe RED but I do not know that … and I am not sure they could really compete with specialized HD video cameras
