PAD thread mostly. I couldn't care less about brand loyalty. Whatever does the job, that will be my gear.

I am not a gear head, a techno head or a loyalist. So I usually stay out of majority of forum's threads. Unless I am really bored then I will post something. Like I am doing right now.

Yes, I'm planning on joining the high school photography club next year, and I did do the world wide photo walk. But otherwise I really haven't put much effort into joining a local club, not that I suppose it takes much effort ;^)

Plus, [NR] is free to join :^)

I never thought this site is about latest marketing mambo jumbo like newest latest and greatest sacculative gear features that will make your hairs silky and shiny …
The forum is called Nikon Rumors and Nikon is all about tradition and compatibility so using great old Nikon MF lens on a newest camera is a Nikon way, at least for me it is.
Knowing about the past is a way to learn and understand a future, and repeating marketing slogans will just make you boring and obsolete soon enough.

Maybe the film people are just here to get the jump on that juicy Nikon F7 rumor?

How is the weather in Finland this time of the year

I don't actually live there anymore, I was there from summer 08 to summer 09, but I am going back for a month once college lets up this summer as well. From what I can estimate though it's about -8c where I used to live. Dark too...

I suppose if I wanted to torture myself I could borrow my mother's D300...dad's digital setup is a bit above my head, a Leaf Aptus 75S back for his mamiyas and hasselblads...in my opinion it's too cumbersome, I don't really like using it, but he does.

Or search Meetup for a local camera outing group. Don't know how large of a city you're in or near - but I figure you're odds are better than even of finding an _active_ one in any city of 500k or more. It's one of the first places I go when planning a business trip. ;)

Kind of, but a knock off from China, that I got cheap, I just did not like the way it worked normally, so I though a second like as a different kind of flash attachment, it actually has a opening were I can slide color gels into it for color effects, I might try to add a home made grid to it also

Actually it is fun to make your own things, I have light modifier from an older studio light, with a bit of help from a hammer works perfect on my Nikon SB 900, it has some padding installed to not damage my flash. I also made this back light stand from a old lamp stand (painted black) and some old studio light stand pieces. This one works great because of its low profile:

I might make fun of your used thing, but I also have bought used, special for collecting. After all I just bought a N80 a few days ago

And no you should not bend over to love Nikon even if one find it interesting to see new gear or dream of what might be available as future products

A love for the new can't be tempered with a healthy dose of realism on what, exactly, produces good photos?

A love for Nikon can't be tempered with a healthy dose of skepticism when it comes to Nikon marketing claims or the direction they move? Must a love for Nikon only be expressed by dropping one's drawers and bending over? Is one not allowed to love Nikon _and_ point out flaws in their direction, or must said love be blind?

I apologize in advance if what you are complaining about is _not_ a failure to drink the koolaid and worship the ground Nikon walks on.

EDIT:
PS - I buy plenty of new gear, but why buy new when you can get new-condition for 25-50% less? I have NEVER had a lens fail in (and rarely out) of the warranty period. I have NEVER had anything but a tube fail on a flash - and I'd rather spend $10 and 30 minutes to fix that myself than send it off and wait for 4-6 weeks. Or are you suggesting Nikon gear is crap and we need the warranty? ;)

Anyway we have a few NR members that are using mainly older Film Gear, Some are using mainly older M/F lenses, some are against the Video feature (which all DSLR models will have eventually) and some would newer buy anything new.

So why are you active NR members, is Nikon Rumors not about the latest and newest that Nikon is making or hopeful going to to make. BTW I am not against you as members of NR, you all bring something interesting to this forum and I hope that you will continue doing so

I would say I am into a bit of both, but mostly the latest, I have after all NAS
