if video recording is not possible directly inside the D300 i'd like at least that we could get continuous video image thru HDMI without any setting info when working in LiveView mode.

I know I'm dreaming, I'd like it to be opensource so I can make my own adjustments to menus, presets and control the algorithm that adjusts shutter speed in Aperture mode or aperture in Shutter mode.. which would change depending on which preset I'm in, and some presets will be irregular ones for me, and some will be defaults for when I hand the camera to someone else. Sure I'll forfeit my warranty and assume all risk.
that is not to say I'm a sophisticated nor advanced photographer, not at all. just saying what I would like to see in the firmware :)

I would love it if Nikon could firmware upgrade to the D90 that would allow the editing of curves or levels similar to what pshop does... In fact have a tool designed by adobe that uses the basic tools of pshop so you can do basic edits on location without the aide of a laptop...

Nikon Camera Control pro allows timelapse ( I guess). It's already available but not free ;D
I totally agree with Thom Hogan with his inverted razor blades story; Nikon should publish some infos about their soft in open source to allow talented programmers to make the soft evolve under the form of plugins or optional firmware (think Apple App store).
I own a D300 and would have liked (If Nikon accepted to give his codes on opensource) :

- live histogram on live view
- D-movie (come on I know the D300 can do that) 480p 720p in VRAW (nef video) :D
- auto HDR from bracketed shots (on tripod but also handhold with intelligent surimpose algorithms)
- better AF in darker conditions
- better High ISO handling
- better Noise reduction algorithms
- RAW editing in camera (at least NEFtoJPG conversion)
- autocorrection of lenses distorsions (barrel - pincushion - mustach) and loCA (based on DXO datasheets if Nikon collaborates with DXO optics) in camera => no need to undistort in DXO or PTlens in postprod
- self-aware correction of dust spots
- auto folder creation by date (if chosen in the menu) on the card
- ability to hide image just by depressing FUNC button during shooting (ok this is a spy-ish feature) ;-)
- different image proportions (3:2 of course, 4:3, 5:4, 1:1, 16:10, 16:9, 2:1)
- why not a light photostitch feature? combined with the autocorrection of lenses distorsions
- on-demand defragmentation of the data on card (to optimize data space if you erased lots of pics)
- DOF merging (to get an absolute DOF on the whole image by merging shallow DOF shots made with big fstop and short bursts)
- the list goes on... :D

I'd like a time lapse update for the D40. Time lapse isn't available on all the bodies right?

It should be. Such a simple thing, and done right, time lapse is always breathtaking.

Try startrails. It's free and it's got a clean interface, and not only will it overlay multiple exposures for star trails, one of the options is to create a time lapse movie from the images you load.

Yeah, that annoys me that time lapse is on the D60.

Is time lapse on the D90? If it's true that the AF motor will be gone soon on the D90 level cameras, that's the camera I'd get.

I would very much like a firmware update for my D300 that allows some of the new features of the D300S, like the virtual horizon, the improved info display, and the extra active D-Lighting options. But it's been so long, I'm not keeping my hopes up :^(

It has been rumored the Nikon is releasing new firmwares in December for its new DSLR's
especially for D-MOVIE mode. I personally have been waiting for that firmware for last 2 months since I bought my D300s.

My wish for the new firmware would have been to have:

1. Full manual control over video.

2. Different frame rate. Similar to Canon 7D.

3. Full HD as well as 720p for slow motion.

and

4. Motion JPEG and Quick time movie compression.

I hope Nikon is reading this and will surprise a lot of us.

Best regards and Happy New Year to all of you.
