Yes, I too think the photo is faked.

Firstly, it simply doesn't LOOK natural. I've seen wild animals in nature, in zoos and on documentaries. I've never seen anything like this.

Secondly, if a wolf or similar encountered an open bar gate in the wild, it would go THROUGH the bars not over them. Wild animals have evolved to keep low and crawl whenever possible, they can squeeze through tiny gaps, and will only jump in extreme circumstances. That's why it doesn't look natural.

For the record - faked or not, it's spectacular but I'm not greatly impressed.

The photographer is insisting the photo is not staged and the Wolf is wild. Apparently he's just a victim of jealousy :^)

I told you guys! I was right about this photo. I knew it was very strange that a wild wolf would be jumping over a gate it could have easily just gone around or squeezed through. I also questioned the choice in using a manual focus hasselblad to capture a "wild shot". This photo stood out to me so quickly. It didn't make sense to a lot of other pros too. I guess the photographer got tired of "trying" to get this shot after so many attempts that he just "made" it. What a shame :^(

Yes there is no doubt that the picture was fabricated, the wolf looks like the tame one, the fence/gate was located between the stones with the tree behind. Anyway it is not a great nature picture anyway

OMG. . .the picture is horrible anyhow, there are SO MANY better wildlife pictures taken by those in Africa/Safari type setting than a galloping wolf (which within itself is an odd happen-chance item). . . .

Yes I remember that post about this shot, and I also remember that I thought it looked like a set up picture. We have a wild life center 20 min from here and you can rent a bear, wolf and others with their trainer and that shot would be easy to make

What a shame, I actually liked the photo ..

**********************************
December 17, 2009. Behind the scenes of the world's largest nature photo competition looms a potential scandal. A member of the panel of judges, nature journalist Rosamund Kidman Cox, admits to Suomen Luonto (Nature of Finland) magazine that this year's overall winner photo is currently being investigated because of a suspected fraud.
