As Spraynpray says , if the fall damaged the glass theres every chance the F mounting on the camera could have been damaged, This may not always look obvious to the naked eye, but could cause problems with D type lenses and exposure readings due to the aliasing ring behind the mounting been damaged. For peace of mind send both.

I'm a bit late here, but be sure to send the body and the lens. Any blow strong enough to damage a lens element could damage the camera.

For perspective, I just repaired a 24-70 that was dropped - the zoom would not work and there was a small dent on the lens barrel. The repair cost $475 at a Nikon authorized repair location - and all the glass was intact. The repair was routine, all parts were in stock, and the lens is better than new.

Send it to your nearest Nikon repair centre they will replace the front lens group, check for other damage, test and reset any misalignment of the lens.

Oh, and if it were mine and the lens was on the body when you dropped it, I would send the body to be checked out too.
