On my laptop they do not look the same color even when connected. The A looks to be darker (though not by much)

Yes - even on my monitor. How do we know that the "after" - when they are linked - is actually the mind trick? Anyone have their denistometer/colorimeter handy??

We all carry mental models of the world around with us. Sometimes, we hold those mental models so tightly (and we are unaware of them) that we fail to see evidence that contradicts them. Science is full of such things, and scientists often fail to appreciate that all knowledge is tentative. New mental models mean we see things we didn't see before, they challenge our beliefs, and they often are at the root of conflict. Any rate, enough philosophy. Thanks msmoto for bringing this up.

In many of the posts on NRF there is a wide range of opinions and some of us are certain our perception is the correct one. Lately in trying to do a lens test, I have had enormous difficulties getting accurate focus. Mainly this is due to my not having the subject properly lighted. In assessing my errors in getting the lens test completed in a manner useful to those on NRF, I became of my "assumptions" and limits to my perceptions.

Well, in this spirit, I would offer to those who are into illusions, the opportunity to see how easily fooled we are. This is from a beautiful website, Astronomy Picture of the Day
