That 14-24 is third on my list of next lenses to buy (let's be honest—it's probably 2 years away). My dad has the 18-105 and I'm impressed with the quality of that lens for a kit lens—I think it's the best kit lens Nikon has made. It's pretty sharp even wide open and the VR works well.

Hi Jonny

Just got my D5000 so not all the lenses I would like. have the kit lens (18-105) and just got the Nikon 14-24 F.28 which just blows me away with the quality. One day, after purchase of FF, I would get the 50mm 1.4 and 60mm macro.

Welcome, Tan. I'm curious to know which lens(es) you're using on it. I love that VR works while doing video, and I'm considering getting an 18-105 VR just for video on my D90. I've had fun with the video, too.

Welcome to forum Tan!

My dad's enjoying taking video on his 7D too. Sometimes I wish I had video on my D300. *Sigh*

Thanks Adam. I have actually moved from Canon (Canon 40d, 50d plus top lenses) for Nikon. Had a Nikon F90X film camera and loved it. Just brought a grip for the d5000 and really like the LCD flip out screen - cannot bend down but now can take low angle shots. This is not an entry level camera - the manual itself is 200 pages!!

Just got a D5000 to complement a later purchase of a FF (D700 or replacement or maybe even 300s) and I must say the video feature is quite enjoyable. It does not matter that it cannot AF because it encourages you to be more creative and hands-on. have really warmed to the idea that I have this facility available now and can see the trend going this way. Of course it does not replace a dedicated video camera but something is better than nothing and at HD quality, the video quality is a lot better than a still facility on a video camera. What do others think?

Regards

Tan
