I've been trying to track down info on the d2500's panoramic feature since i just purchased it from the DigitalRev store you recommended and have been having trouble finding anything official.
I am beginning to wonder if this feature actually exists on this camera since there is no official mention of it on the Nikon website, the new Digitutor or even the official owners manual!!! which you can now download here:
http://www.fotoez.net/nikon-d5200-dslr-users-manual-owners-instruction-15243
Do you know anything or have you heard any official word on this feature?!

I can happily report that I got my D800e back this Monday from Nikon in Califorina. They repaired the 10 pin without any question, I also asked them to check the left focus and the RO stated that they checked and adjusted the focus. All repairs under warranty. Of course I had to pay for shipping and insurance to Nikon. the bad news is they send the camera back without insurance. :(

This issue just rots my socks, to spend this kind of money on a camera and have it fail in less than a month, the worse part is Nikon won't issue a recall so at this time we are at their mercy at what cause they arrive at......warranty repair or......impact damage. I hear that they try for the impact damage first, unless you hold fast against that, the problem with that is, they hold all the cards. I posted on another forum last night and I was informed that if you are in Britain the retailer is obliged to replace the camera and they deal with Nikon unfortunately it is not the way here in the good ole USA, we have to deal with Nikon.

My 800e has a broken 10 pin socket just like the photo above.

Hello new to the forum joined to add to the list of unfortunate's who has purchased a D800E only to have the 10 pin socket come loose in the socket after (3) short weeks of ownership. I use(d) the remote quite a bit as I have been doing a lot of night shooting with all the Christmas lights and displays of late. I have contacted the retailer (Gary Camera of Merrillville IN) who has told me that I need to contact Nikon. These guys were great in the front end, but I am sure disappointed with them now, I don't know who to be more disappointed with, Nikon or Gary Camera! Anyway I am about to send my camera into Nikon for evaluation "as they put it" I hope that they replace it as opposed to fix it, as I don't think a camera this new should experience this kind of failure. I will let you all know how it goes in the future, I imagine 3-4 weeks.

In the meantime I will have to use my stand-by 700

It is a different type of product and work flow. There is not "camera raw" it just imports the images and you have all the mostly used photography tools. Many like me, barely use photoshop anymore as Lightroom does 90-100% of the work that needs to be done. (depending on the type of work it is of course.) The nice thing about LR is that you can choose to edit the photo in photoshop once you have it where you are ready for big heavy lifting.

You should try it to see what you think.

To your original post - you need to do all raw edits in NX2 if you work in that work flow.

Save as a TIFF from NX2. Import that into PS.

<insert gory details here>

Capture and View NX2 save their changes nondestructively inside the NEF file as a series of steps (instructions). You will find a basic JPG with these steps applied but that's all. The adobe or apple raw converters don't understand the Nikon (NX2) data so you start over from the raw sensor data.

See this thread for discussion on why this may or may not be a good idea

I just got my D800e a week ago. Yesterday I took it out and used the 10-pin connector for the first time. Today I went to plug into it again and found it was broken just like the others talked about in this thread - pushed down and off center. I'm going to send it back to the retailer, but truthfully, I'm fearful the next one won't last any better. I will definitely be more careful with it and probably won't tighten the ring. Having a 10-pin on the front instead of a connection port inside the side flap door was a big part of my decision to get the D800 over the D600. What a big disappointment and such a sinking feeling to know my new baby is broken already.

Yes mine broke too. I have been using those connectors in my blimps for many years with film cameras, then a D2X, D300, D700 and now D800. Never any problem before in over ten years until now. It's in the shop, and i am using a loaner (not a D800.) a friend in England has reports of this occuring in the UK.

The problem with the connector is a design flaw that until this body didn't seem to matter, which makes me think they are getting the plugs from a new source. With most connectors, such as on a coax cable, the threads are on the socket element such that screwing on the plug draws the two together. On the ten pin, the threads are on the surrounding cavity; therefore the plug can be drawn into the cavity but if for any reason it is misaligned or there is an obstruction (bent pin, jammed pinhole) the plug exerts force on the inner piece and forces it to the point of failure. I can't tell you how ugly it felt to see green circuit board in the hole! My workaround will be to attach an MC-22A to the body and leave it on, then jump the other end of the cord to a new set of connectors in the blimp, so that I am not repeatedly challenging the fitting of the plug. Annoying! But I still love my Nikons.

I've slowly been accumulating spots on my D600 sensor, but these haven't been a major issue unless i'm taking shots of a uniform background.

Today though, about 10k actuations in my mirror seems jammed or locked and isn't raising properly/fully when shooting. Using the "lock mirror up" sometimes gets it about halfway and sometimes not at all. Bummer.

Its under warranty and I'll take it in tomorrow, but for a 6 week old camera that hasn't been knocked around it's frustrating -- but serves me right for being an early adopter, i guess.

Posting here as it seems potentially related to the the mirror box issues that are referenced earlier in this thread as a likely cause of dust/oil. Or i could just have a dud, or have accidentally dinged it without noticing.

I have had both the dust spots and a few oil spots on my D600 sensor. You can see the difference under magnification. Those dark black spots are dust (or shavings from an uncleaned internal part) while the browner larger spots are drops of oil or lubricant which must be flinging off the mirror.

Funny that the person to whom the dpreviewer spoke said it was "lubricant but not oil." In this case, what's the difference? They're not using salad dressing.

I'm certainly not an engineer, but you've got to figure that a highly engineered component, like a shutter curtain, would need some kind of oil/lubricant in order to ensure 150,000 or so actuations.

Perhaps some engineer somewhere miscalculated how the lubrication system would work and that a splatter is being created? Perhaps the reservoir in which the lubricant is stored has a leak or disperses too much lubricant per actuation? It seems that, based on that report, that Nikon is "getting it" and is in the process of dealing with the issue. It's actually the most encouraging thing I've read in terms of an interaction between Nikon and a D600 user.

I continue to wait. I've got to believe that eventually this will be resolved.

My current feeling about my D600 is that it is not dust. Initially I was able to get some dust off with a blower that was on the sensor from the factory. Now, after only 300 clicks, I have spots on the sensor that won't come off with blowing. I have a suspicion that they are oil. I've sent my D600 body in to Nikon for repair.

Thom Hogan posted an interesting comment on the D600 "dust" issue. He thinks it may not be "dust" at all but some shavings left over from drilling some holes during assembly on a part that was not properly cleaned after the drilling. Many people are doing the drilling and just one or more are not properly cleaning up after the drilling to remove all the shavings or filings. That would account for some bodies having the issue and others not having it like the D800 left focus issue. That would actually be good news because Nikon will fix it on the assembly line (maybe they already have) and if it is an internal source of "dust" than it will eventually be eliminated with repeat cleanings. It would be great if it is not some sort of design flaw in the camera such that dust is being sucked in with use because that would be a constantly recurring problem. I have cleaned my D600 sensor twice now in just under 1,000 exposures. Less "dust" the second cleaning. Maybe that will be the end of it.

Thanks for the reply msmoto, you are a respected member of this forum and have provided helpful advice to many of us, including me.

I have heard the "oil change in a new care" analogy in many forums. I want to make sure that everyone knows that this is not a fair comparison. My sensor had image-wrecking amounts of spots after just 200 clicks and even more after 300 clicks. This isn't routine maintenance that a responsible owner should expect, it is a problem.

I hope this problem can be easily remedied. As a matter of fact I am expecting that it will be. However, it is frustrating to hear that Nikon had similar problems with a significant number of D7000 and D800 bodies. This shouldn't happen to a third line for them. I hope Nikon finds a fix and remedies the situation for those of us having this problem and does not replicate this problem in future camera lines.

On a related note, I have found it incredibly frustrating to see other photography/nikon community members attacking those of us with this camera issue. It is very apparent in this thread = http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/post/50354207 That poor Swiss person, why does he deserve to be attacked? It is really poor form to attack the victim.
