You never know... I live by EAFB which is one of the largest Aerospace facilities in the US (many of the shuttles were constructed here, and the stealth bombers, B2's, Sr71's, the speed of sound was broken here. There is crazy top secret stuff and they gotta test it somewhere. Many people around here see weird stuff from time to time that is B'sed over by the government.

Then again didn't Nikon bs off the J1 till they were ready. Heck if a camera company does it(and they have little to hide usually too as this site proves) the government and aerospace agencies must do it often.

I was with my brother on his boat on a lake in Colorado looking at the stars when I saw a green glowing light cut it's way through the night sky. I turned to my brother and said "you didn't see that did you" He said "the green thing? nope"... found out the next day it was a meteor. At least that's what the government told the news media!!!

Thanks for humoring me, Kyoshi. I'm pretty sure I saw the Phobos-Grunt spacecraft that I mentioned above. When I had the presence of mind to track it (40 minutes after it happened), it was almost exactly on the opposite side of Earth, which would be right because it takes 90 minutes to orbit. I've watched the ISS and space shuttle go past together just after twilight and that's exactly what it reminded me of. Reading about it I saw that it has no attitude adjustments right now, so it's just kind of tumbling through space, which would explain the flickering.

Well, I'm interested to see everyone's UFO photos. ;-)

Maybe a remote drone or something. I'm not going to deny that I believe stuff is out there (wether government aircraft tests or "something else") I once saw an "Astra Tr3b"... on the bright side the D4's Iso levels should allow you to capture it (when it comes out)

Okay, the title seems like a joke, I guess, and I'm half joking. Here's a bizarre question for you all: has anyone ever caught a UFO in a shot? You have to realize that by UFO I don't mean anything extraterrestrial but just unidentified.

What made me think to ask is that I just saw one and I was wondering if anyone had any idea what it could have been. It came almost directly over me in southeast Idaho coming from the south and heading north. It looked like a fireball—it glowed red-orange and flickered irregularly. My first thought was that it was a helicopter, but it was crossing the sky so quickly that it would have been very close to the ground, and I think I would have heard it when I went outside to watch it. I grabbed what was handy on my way out the door—my nex-5n because my nikon was in my bag—and I got a short video of it. It was bigger than jupiter but much smaller (~10x?) than the moon.

I remember reading about that failed joint Russia/China mission to Mars and I think I remember them saying it would probably come out of orbit in January or February. Do you think it could have been that?

Thanks in advance for any help. I'm going to have trouble sleeping until I find out what it was.

holy cow!
the vid is very nice too! one can see the rocket's propulser stop after a while... the swirly spin effect is really beautiful... (so sad this is a weapon of mass effect in reality... yet fireworks can sometimes kill).

Delivering gifts so quickly he goes back in time? That's a new spin on the whole "faster than light = move backwards in time" theory :).
