Yes,my lens was out of warranty. I agree with you to a point. But, I have heard of people having trouble getting repairs done in the US on grey market items whether they are a month old or 10 years old. maybe there is a differance between grey and something you buy when on vacation over seas. Don't Know.

@Johndbr, I think that you are confusing ordinary repairs with warranty covered repairs. Every local office will have anything repaired if you pay for it. I'm pretty sure that this is the case, as I doubt that lenses had a 7 year warranty back then.

Well
I bought a Sb-900 through EBAY from Hong Kong.
After about 6 months, the flash would underperform when used with a color filter.
As Slovakia has NO official Nikon serive, I brought it to Vienna, Austria.
The paypal invoice was enough for them, they repaired it under the Int. Warranty, replacing the flash tube also :-)
So from my experience, works like a charm ;)

In the days of film I wanted a 600mm F4 AfD lens that was just released then. Nikon USA did not have any available. A freind of mine who worked in a camera store in Canada had one in stock, so I bought it from him.
About 7 yrs after I bought it the AF quit working so I sent it in for repair here in the USA. Nikon repaired it with no questions. Now this was about 10 years ago now I think. Things may have changed since then. I have heard of some problems with getting equipment repaired that was was not bought here these last few years.

You know Soap I am going to talk to my Nikon rep next time I see him and ask him a few questions about why Nikon is dealing with warranties the way they do. You are right I might break something when I am back in Denmark and need to get a replacement, also can they legally have a Warranty card in the box your gear came with "Nikon Worldwide Service Warranty" and then actually not perform even out of warranty repair on out of country purchases

Maybe the "Nikon Worldwide Service Warranty" policy should be re-written to explain how most Countries are dealing with out of country purchases. In the mean time just purchase in the Country that you reside in

Some Nikon country offices are trying to protect themselves against so called gray market products.
For example prices in Europe and the rest of the world are about 30% higher then US prices, so imagine what it will be like for them if everyone was buying Nikon from US. And it is not only Nikon but most other companies, photography or not, are having similar policy.

That is one area where Nikon is really showing us the DARK side, don't take me wrong I really love my Nikon gear and am going to be shooting Nikon for many years yet:

However I live in Canada and Nikon Canada in Ontario is listed on the "Nikon Worldwide Service Warranty" but this is posted on their web site:

                             _________________________________________________

As stated on Nikon Canada Inc.’s web site, http://www.nikon.ca, Nikon Digital Cameras purchased outside of Canada by a consumer, or a reseller, do not qualify for warranty service from Nikon Canada Inc.

Further, Nikon Canada Inc. will not accept for repair any Digital Cameras purchased outside of Canada by a consumer or reseller.

If you plan to purchase a Nikon Digital Camera from a source outside of Canada or from a reseller who has purchased from a source outside of Canada, it is important that you make your own warranty and repair service arrangements.

                           ___________________________________________________

I know this is done because Costco and other retailers are selling Nikon Cameras that are imported from the a US supplier and Nikon Canada is trying to stop it. Now that our Canadian Dollar is again almost on par it is tempting to buy in the US, but then even out of warranty Nikon say they will not repair

Good luck with your Flash repair

Pete

I bought Nikon SB-900 Flash at Dubai about 8 months ago and now its not working. During photo shoot session suddenly my flash tube shattered in pieces even its cold. I look over Nikon's website to find out official service center and I found it in my area in Turkey:

Distributor
Karfo Karacasulu Dış Tic. A.S.
Ebusuud Cad. No:61 34110 Sirkeci, Istanbul, Turkey
Phone : +90 212 455 67 00 , +90 212 455 67 17
Fax : +90 212 522 43 43
Email : info@karfo-karacasulu.com

I went and they simply refuse "Worldwide Service Warranty". Even didn't want to look it. The reason was, they only repair under warranty if the product bought from Turkey and it should have "Karfo Karacasulu" stamp on warranty. So simply Turkey service ignoring Nikon's Worldwide warranty!!! And also its writing from their website too:

http://www.nikon.com.tr/warranty.php

So I left my flash them to repair and I don't know how much money should I pay so far.
I want to ask what is the meaning "Nikon Worldwide Service Warranty" for?

Could you explain please?

Regards...
Koray Ustuner
