Until Nikon releases an SDK and libraries for Android or iOS I don't think we'll be seeing remote control software running on tablets or phones.

Now you can use Android to control a Nikon DSLR, or any PTP camera, over USB. You'll need a phone with USB OTG, or a fancy new Asus Transformer TF700 like mine with a USB port.

The software is DslrDashboard and is available from Google's play website for free. It's still in beta, so there will be bugs.

The GUI is a bit non-intuitive to say the least, and seems to be worsened by being on a tablet. I am using it with a D800E and the basics seem to work well. I'm not yet sure if all the options work, or are available. The icon that looks like a microphone starts interval capture!

This application isn't intended to be a simple remote (you can buy from e-bay a remote for 0.90$), this application should be something more : manage photos and preview captured image in a large display and use live view to make precise focus or "focus staked" images.

If you have an iphone you can get the triggertrap app for ten bucks and the adapter/dongle kit for another ten. Provides a wide range of control for a variety of functions and has compatibility with a wide range of DSLR's. The fstopper guys have an article on their page giving it fairly high praise.

Nice clean interface with only very minor blemishes... but here's couple of notes on use with my D300s:

- change of mode (A, S, P, M) only updated by turning camera off/on
- sometimes clicking full-screen keeps program window in front of full-screen image
- delete image not possible from within program and if deleting in folder, it's only updated by a close/open program
- time lapse works fine, but TL-movie not: "File not found"
- live view not possible from camera, when USB is connected. I don't think it's your "problem", but rather a Nikon "feature".

Keep up the good work! Looks very promising!

I had this error a few times trying out the time lapse feature.

I wonder if there is some kind of lower time settings we should not go under? Yes, I had lowered it to try and see how it would handle 6 shots, 1 second apart.

ok, if somebody has fun in developing.
It would not help if i pay a few thousand just for compiling it for the IPad. Serving the USB interface on the IPad is the real problem.
But anyway for the Android I am still hoping, that would be a nice Open source Projekt.
Dear Community

As far as I understand, this control software is for PCs. If yes I dont realy understand this projekt, who needs it, there are some control software around.
ok they cost some money, but if you realy need the functionality 100 or 150 euros should be ok.

What I did not find so far is this type of sw running on a IPad or Android just using a extended USB cable.
The idea is, doing timelapse passing day/night transitions and watching the histogram of the camera all the time and do the right adjustments at the right time.
The problem with Laptops is the power consumtion and therefor is just useless except you have the man power to carry all the staff (heavy batteries etc.).

I hope you dont kill me for this comment.

regards
Juergen

Let me summarize:

You want it for a tablet and don't understand why its free?

= = = =

Ok. I can see how a tablet version would be easier for the users. I think the software he uses to make this function isn't available for Apple or Android so maybe that might have something to do with it.

Perhaps as the source is available for free, you might like to learn how and then do it yourself? The joy of Open Source projects...

Are you offering to pay a few thousand for it? If so, maybe the developer will compile it for the iPad or whatever you need?
