I just wished this lens would be f4 on the longest end :) as f6.3 with usable f8 is not very usable, unless there's plenty of light - this lens is a light hogger

pete - thanks for comments on my web page, need to work on it, but can't find enough time to do it :(

I also tried both and ended up with the 50-500, IMHO it performs better optically. Will send You some samples later.

The biggest problem with these Sigma's are quality control, they are cheaper than other brands for a reason and that is lack of quality control. Anyway the last two 150-500 I sold appeared to be OK, they were not returned. I have a 50-500 in our store at the moment, I have not compared printed quality comparison just zoomed in on a D300/700 but they looked the same to me

Hi Max, i've had the 150-500 for a couple of weeks now but haven't been able to take very many photos with it yet.The OS works great but is noisy. It is soft at 500mm past 20 yards or so but usable. If you use 500mm at the closest focus distance it's not good at all....why that is I have no idea, but i've seen others complain about it.

I have enclosed a shot...the only one I have up on Flickr ...f/8.0 250mm ISO 800

I have tried both and would take the 150-500 Sigma, If Nikon was to make one I would properly go for Nikon instead, but expect to pay almost double for Nikon

Merry Xmas to all,

I bought the a Nikon 70-300 VR and I am having fun with it, but ...

But, I am somewhat disappointed at the "short" reach I get compared with my 18-105 than came with my D90.

So, I am looking, once again at the Sigma lens.

A few questions for you:

What are the differences between the Sigma 150-500 mm f5-6.3 DG OS HSM and the Sigma 50-500 mm F4-6.3 EX DG HSM?

I understand that the first is "OS" while the second is not. I kind of think that with such long reach lenses, you do need optical stability (like the VR in Nikon's lens)...

However, the second has EX, which I believe labels higher end Sigma lenses. Any thoughts on this?

I understand that these lenses are heavier than the Nikon 70-300 VR, but hey, I can live with that!

Any further thoughts?

Tks

Max

PS: Someone said (was it here?) that Nikon is coming out with 150-500 VR III lens!!! How real is this? If so, when would it be? Spring time? At what price range???
