While Nikon 1 is also over-priced, it does offer more than the Q in the tech dept. Also, the 1 Nikkor glass looks pretty good. I imagine Nikon will re-evaluate the pricing structure after release.

Honestly I was looking at the new $800 Pentax Q and who are they kidding, A toy camera for $800 sugg retail. Just like the HP touchpad WAY overpriced, it's a toy camera and even have toy lenses

Anyway Ricoh do the HP thing and clear it out at maybe $200 - 300, lick your wounds and move on, just don't follow HP in giving up on everything, you can still sell a few DSLR's

Sadly the new Nikon offer does not look much better and also overpriced

BTW I bought a HP touchpad, it's not bad, but certainly no Ipad

It has nothing to do with it being Nikon. And no, I don't take KR word as gold, I take it as logcial. Which reminds me, I should go see what he says about the Ricoh so I can spread that here instead of FAILing it on my own terms. If he praises it then I'm in trouble!

The first review on the GXR is up. PhotographyBlog calls it "one of the most photographer-friendly cameras that we've ever reviewed, with near-faultless handling...". The price is a big con and they want more choices in "lens/sensor" combinations but they really liked it overall giving it 4 and half out of 5 stars!

Besides not even being legal in my state, I don't have those kinds of leanings.

It is a bit spooky that we're always agreeing. And I don't even shoot sports besides recreational four-year-old soccer, which is actually closer to still life or portraiture than action shooting than you might think if you've never been to a game.

One thing to note is that the zoom lens is using a compact-size sensor. I wonder if they decided not to make the sensor a separate module because they plan to use such a large range of sensor sizes. Lenses made with small sensors in mind would vignette like crazy on any other sensor (obviously). One could argue that a reasonable photographer would understand this, but who knows about random rich (or just foolish) amateurs who might get upset over incompatibilities they didn't bother to research.

I do like how this system makes it easy to switch between DSLR IQ and something like a compact superzoom, though. Putting a 600mm equivalent on the EP-2 would be far more unwieldy. Not that 600mm on a compact sensor would result in particularly nice images, but I like the potential. I wouldn't be able to afford it, though, so I'll stick to my D60 for now.

That's an Optolyth Spotting Scope. Birders and hunters use them. They sell compact camera mounts for it. The camera is a Nikon P5000

Not only will your 50/1.2 become AFs, it will also get VRIII and have it's speed improved to 1.0 (even in heaven you can't necessarily beat a Noctilux). Oh, and your D5s (ISO over 256K) will be D40 small, but 20 fps.

And no, I won't be interested in this camera, no matter what you say unless this camera goes under the $500 mark. Minimum. For 1 lens/sensor combination. $1000+ for the 2 lens kit is insane.

I'm sure there are people who will be interested in a camera like this. Niko, you mentioned photojournalists who are concerned with dust, for example. But it's not for a mass market and it's priced as a niche product, too. I just can't see it becoming the next big thing. Unless that Optolyth monstrosity is included.

Exactly! I intend to use that lens for the rest of my life! Anybody know how to bring it to the afterlife? ;^) (Come to think of it, maybe Nikon will have an AFS version of it in the afterlife :^) )

The RED has interchangeable lens, sensor, everything. Now there are advantages because you can get better IQ by upgrade lenses and/or the sensor but you still keep your very good monitor, very good handles and viewfinder.. etc.. Ricoh's system would only be good if there was a way to change the lens as well...

Also, alphanikonrex you idea of getting only one lens defeats the whole purpose of the camera... if I only get 1 lens, why would I want a camera on which I can change the sensor?

Ricoh is already a small company, they are trying new stuff but it's overpriced and it simply won't work.
