@NSXR: I have a D5000 and D90, but I don't shoot with them both, I'm learning/shooting with the D90 and selling the D5000. Shame to sell it, it would be a perfect p&s replacement for my wife if she wasn't freaked by the size and apparent complexity of it. I'm not dissing the D5000, I have taken some nice pics with it and the IQ of the D90 is no better, it is just the ergonomics I prefer as I am giving it full use.
Nikon have done me no favours by discontinuing the D5000 just as I'm going to sell it so if it looks like I can't get more than £200 for it I will keep it to cut down on lens changes.

Yes, then I would be referring to the 10 pin connector.

I'm hesitant to open my mouth again on this thread, but if I'm understanding the question right, the answer is it's a round 10-pin connector on that series you're mentioning. That's what the D200/D300 have, anyway, and I'm pretty sure I remember thinking I wouldn't have to buy a new remote sync cable for a D700 upgrade (the kind of argument I used to convince myself I should get a $2500 camera...).

USB cables (that is what we are talking about?) are not Nikon-specific and there is absolutely no need, or benefit, to buying a Nikon brand one.

jonny: no worries mate, I got distracted so it didn't cost me.

End of the day I guess it comes down to keeping those expensive accessories going out of the door.

If you mean Nokoff, I've bought dirt cheap connectors before and ended up with something that does more damage than a knackered OEM one. 8^0 If you mean Nikon - WHERE?

The reason for asking is that the D90 I bought is not new so the connectors will have run the gauntlet of a possibly ham-fisted DPO (judging by the look of leads, books etc that came with it, that could be the case).

My D5000 is like new ('new' new not 'used' new) if anybody is looking for one ;^/

If I'm understanding you correctly, now, you mean PC as in personal computer and sync as in data, not strobes.

Yea, D90 uses the older (and ironically weaker) mini-USB, whereas the D5000 uses the thinner (and ironically stronger) micro-USB. If you haven't picked one up yet you should be able to find them dirt cheap.

Yea, that's always bugged me. One of the first things I bought for my D100 was the power adapter. I was thinking "No 40 frame limit! I'm going to do massive time-lapses!", well I never did. Sold the D100, got a D200, was sitting in a cheap extended-stay hotel one night (bored out of my skull) (in the middle of a protracted relocation) digging through my camera "junk" box, found the power adapter, said "Hey, unlimited power! I'm going to do a massive time-lapse!"

Nope! The stupid fucker doesn't fit. :(

Thanks spraynpray, sounds like good general info for us all to be aware of. I had a similar question a while ago about whether the AC power lead for a 700 would work with a 3s? Answer, they're different. Very annoying and expensive :-(

Those are what I'm talking about - thanks jonny. So I can keep my D5000's carefully used PC lead and sell the one off the D90 with the D5000. Cool.

There is no PC flash sync in either model, but maybe you mean USB and I think they are the same (same USB options). IR remote is exactly the same in both, and both can take a wired remote through the GPS port.

Those air releases were cool - less chance of camera shake because they are less stiff when they press the button.

Does anybody know if the connections for PC sync, remote release etc. are all the same across the models?

Actually, it is the D90 and D5000 that I am mainly interested in.

You mean the D100, which was the last camera that had a screw in spot for a cable release. The D50 has an IR sensor.

I always have that problem everywhere with my 2 ML-L3s (except underwater). I wish there was a place for an old fashioned cable release like the D50 has...

Nice. I never had any problems with the ML-L3, but I had to give that up when I moved to the D300, that's okay though, my Dad got a free remote for his D50. ;-)

If I did a lot of group photos, that I wanted to be in I could see this kind of product being very useful.
