I think we will have more rumors/news of nov rebates/sales, at least in america, as we get closer to thanksgiving. My local camera shop told me their Nikon reps are going to have a long list of stuff just in time for Black friday and cyber monday. Fingers crossed, the guy wasnt just blowing me smoke.

Last rumor on instant rebate is not happy with me. There is no rebate on a pro-lens.
Who will know the next rebate up-front? I would like to get D7000 and 70-200.
Thanks.

I was able to get the rebate on the 70-300 with my D7000 order. I placed the order for the D7000 kit + 70-300 several weeks ago. The lens arrived but the camera still hasn't shipped. I looked at their website Sunday and it showed the rebate so I called and asked about it. They gave me the rebate and and said it would be a couple more weeks before the camera ships. Thom was right.

I'd like to see a rebate similar to one often offered with the D90 (body/18-105/70-300) for the 7000. Or even just a smallish rebate on the 7000 with the 18-105 (or the 70-300). I know that for a lot of you, the kit lens rebate means less than nothing 'cause you've already got an 18-105/18-200, but for those of us for whom this is a first SLR, it'd be a nice thing to have...

On a related note, Best Buy just sent out one of their Reward Zone thingies... for those of you who are members, they're offering double points on DSLR purchases. Oh, and they're advertising the D90 kit at 1200 as though this is somehow a good price. :P

Sadly, these rebates dont effect me much :/. I think it is a wonderful type of rebate system if you plan for FX by going out and buying the holy 2.8 trinity with a D700 or D3s. Id only be interested if it had a D800+14-24 combo

Discuss your opinions on the new Nikon rebates here.

D7000 + 85mm f3.5 macro = $100
D7000 + 85mm f3.5 macro + 18-105mm = $100

So if you were hoping to get the D7000 with the 24-70, too bad, so sad.

You can find the rest of the details over on the main blog

I'm just curious, Adam--how many raw files can you fit in the buffer of your D90?
I can get 9, but only if I turn off D-lighting (why isn't this option automatically disabled when quality is set to raw?) and Long-exposure noise reduction (why isn't this option automatically disabled when the camera is in continuous high speed mode?).

Denis, I would have to say that with the recent price drop of the D90 you can't go wrong by purchasing one and even if it was replaced tomorrow it's such a good camera that it won't be outdated for quite awhile.

indeed gentoo d300 has better AF, but still to get full of it You need the best lenses on the market. I'm using d90 for last 6 months and I can say that it works really good as a camera for wildlife photographer, actually don't have any problems with AF, the only one thing I would love to have is a bigger buffer, to keep up with continuous shooting

I have both a D90 and a D300. I can MOSTLY agree on the above points. For the average person the D90 is all anyone would need and most would have little use for the few things the D300 offers. I tend to recommend the D90 the most these days and have had many people buy one after my experience with it (if I'm not mistaken I believe adamz was one after a thread I posted).

For wildlife shooters the D300's AF is more of what we need.

I bought the D90 the day it came into stores and have loved it ever since. It's a great buy still 13 months after.

BTW: I keep an old PowerShot S80 only because it has the timelapse/interval-o-meter-function (100 snaps max). I believe Nikon is "done" with the software on our D90 a long time ago - but I'm still dreaming of a timelapse added function in there. The D300 has it and the D5000 too! I feel that I'm left out in the cold here Nikon. :)
Of'course, _if_ Nikon added the function, the D90 would become the "perfect camera" (tm) and as we know, such a camera does not exist. Maybe that's the reason the kept it out?

I've had a D90 for about a year now and have nothing but praise. It can be fully automatic or yield full artistic control with superb image quality. I also believe that the Nikon system (lenses etc) is more capable.

Anyone who's afraid of having any camera replaced (not just the D90) needs to ask themselves what exactly they're afraid of missing out on. If it's just a vague feeling of uneasiness that the next great feature is going to be included on the replacement, I'd say buy the camera you're interested in now. If you can't put your finger on what the new feature is that you would want, the current camera probably has everything you need.

For the D90 specifically, in some ways I think it's better than the D300, which costs twice as much. I'm not trying to pick a fight with D300 users--I feel like I can safely say these things because I am a D300 user--I've used a D300 for 22 months now and the D90 for about three weeks. I like the D90's image review system better than the D300 (calendar mode is cool, being able to quickly scan through just the faces to check focus is awesome for portraits). It's got much better video, although it has its detractors (720p@24fps vs the D300's [WickedHuge]p@8fps with no sound and a shortening of your shutter's lifetime). 720p is perfect for what I want to use it for--a replacement for an old Canon camcorder to shoot short videos of my kids. The D300 beats it in the autofocus and metering systems, compatibility with ancient nikon lenses, and build quality (not that the D90's is anything to sneeze at, either). For everything else I'd say they're evenly matched--most crucially, they're matched in sensor performance. For me, the sensor is the strongest selling point of this camera. It's fabulous.

I have the D90 and just started to learn DSLR photography 9 months ago. I have been taking incredible shots with the D90! But you have to remember it's all about how much you know to get the shots out of the camera. There is the techincal side of knowing how to set WB, Color Saturation, sharpness etc., but also how to compose a picture. If you learn what this camera can do you will be amazed. Excellant camera.
