I think Pentax is doing some things right, such as making excellent entry level cameras, and the K-7 is kind of what the D90 replacement should look like in terms of build quality. Should Pentax and Nikon merge or should Nikon buy them? No. I just don't see any reason for that to happen. Sony bought Mimolta because, it made entering the DSLR market easier for them. Nikon already has a DSLR lineup.

The new Pentax D645 40MP MF body is selling for the same as the D3X, I think it would sell very well, special if branded Nikon or Canon, and there are lots of lenses to help this camera getting started

I agree with Hearty, MF is about the only thing Pentax has that Nikon doesn't. They both have competing survey instrument divisions for instance.

I cant see what pentax would bring to the table that nikon would find to be of value....
Sure they have some nice lenses but we can get them via tokina(pentax and tokina share some lens designs esp the nice new tokinas like the 12-24 and 50-135)

Maybe the MF is good but how many will that sell?

I remember the days leading up to the end of Mimolta, I actually had a friend working for them as a Sales Rep.

They had few models and the few they had simply were not selling, this is the feeling I have about Pentax at the moment, I rarely sell anything from them, I certainly hardly ever get a new Customer buying a Pentax DSLR, mostly they have Pentax Lenses already

So maybe Nikon should buy/merge with Pentax, I think Nikon should buy them: Complete the D645 MF camera, change future models to the Nikon layout and maybe use their Water Proof cameras, the rest they can trow out, what do you think
