Thanks,NSXType-R. I had to fly to Denver for the delivery so not having to haul my big cameras was so nice, plus I didn't have to worry about the TSA agents missing with my good equipment at the airports.

I'd go M4/3 as well. Wait, I did. In addition to my Nikon D5100, we wanted something smaller, but with DSLR like features/quality and for the money, we went with the Panasonic GF3. The kit lens is nice at 14 - 42 (28 - 84 in 35mm) and we've also added the 45-300. There are great deals on this combo, putting it in similar range of P&S cameras, but with more versatility, and a larger sensor (better low light performance. There are way more lenses available since any of the Panasonic or Olympus lenses will fit.

WHY: Hoping my wife will get into fotography due to its ease of use, stylist and hoping it is really fun to use (based on reviews/users experiences)
PRICE: too much. I am hoping it will go down further.

Here's my pick for previous year's-

Canon S95.

Why? It's not a big difference from the S100. For the most part it's still in stock and it's a small camera. If you don't care about video, then go right ahead, you're not missing too much by getting the S95.

I've seen it for around $300.

I suggested either the Sony NEX if the modern look was desired or the Fuji X100 if she wanted something more retro...

Sorry to go with another Fuji, but I am a fan since my S5200.

Super zoom (Lg body): Fuji FinePix SH20EXR/HS22EXR
= Why: 16MP, manual dSLR like zoom, RAW, 1080p video, 30x zoom. Overall the most dSLR like camera I have seen with a fixed lens. Price is pretty nice for the features and compared to similar cameras. Reviews note some performance issues, but it is still a P&S in the end.
= Price: Retail $600, Amazon $339

You guys kill me. One follows the format (Thank you Tcole), one just gives a color, another says a film camera that hasn't been made in almost 40 years that no one can buy, and then there's kanuck... ok close enough. Geeesh!

I'm sure I'm not the only photo-nut that is getting emails of "what camera should I get" and honestly I do not keep up with the compact, super zoom type of cameras at all.

What I'm looking for:
Anything one can purchase in the store today
Good for... General/zoom/IS/low light/ great flash/small/cheap/5-year life...I think you guys get the idea.

Cheap: Olympus RC35
= Why: I love the junk results I get with expired film on this camera. It has inspired me to do an art project or two using this ancient stuff.
= Price: $0. Yup... It was FREE from a friend who was clearing out for a garage sale.

Who needs an expensive Holga to do Lomography? It's all in the film :-)

It is a shutter priority or manual only 35mm RF camera with no other automation. Lens is tack sharp everywhere except right up in the corners (and the back sticks sometimes when I try to open it to change rolls of film).
