I think the author of this thread is looking for a good, wide-angle lens, not necessarily the widest of wide-angle lenses.

I've had the 12-24 for about three years, purchased secondhand, and bought it after researching the competitive offerings, and then using both the Sigma10-24 and the Nikon10-24.

Owners of those two lenses, after using my Nikkor 12-24, thought the 12-24 was a lot "less soft" in the edges or corners than their lenses.

As to the benefit of a 10mm lens for interiors, I'd simply suggest that the 12-24 is plenty adequate, example here:

And simply FYI, there are more examples of using the 12-24 Nikkor on the first page of my pix at Flicker:

Also check out the PAD (photo a day) thread. There are some pictures with the 10-24 and I am sure the 12-24 in there as well.

I will add I had the Tokina 12-24 F4 pro DX II and it was sharp. Performance was good, focus was quiet and fast. My only gripe has been performance in the extremes. Got some CA in high contrast areas and ghosting in some night shots. Below are a couple of shots (low quality from Amazon). It performs well for the price, but now I would get a used/refurbished Nikon instead.

@ Geoff_K +1

One must remember the horizontal angle of view is 82° for the 12-24mm and 90° for the 10-24mm. This is a large difference when shooting interiors. For years I looked at the published angle of view and did not realize the number is for the corner to corner angle and was always disappointed in the end result.

I have been happy with my Nikon 12-24, however unless you read bad things about the 10-24 I would agree with tcole, get the wider one. It may not be much wider however you will kick yourself one day and say I shoulda` .. ;- )

Here are some older threads on these...
http://nikonrumors.com/forum/topic.php?id=365
http://nikonrumors.com/forum/topic.php?id=1416
http://nikonrumors.com/forum/topic.php?id=6034

Both are good lenses. If I had to get a DX UWA now I would go for the 10-24. I had the Tokina 12-24 F4 and it was pretty good, but I think it would be nice to have the extra 2 mm on the wide side and I don't think there is anything to lose by getting it instead of the 12-24. The 12-24 is obviously F4 which is nice and might have a bit better build quality, but the 12-24 is already such a small zoom range the extra wide angle is worth it IMO...since you are getting it for the wide angle use anyway.
